Can anyone tell me how to remove the spring assy from a 6P tailcap?
I need to clean the threads and deburr the spring tip to reduce scoring the cells.
Thanks

Personally I left mine alone. I was concerned about the scoring but realized that the batts don't stay in there long enough for it to be a problem :)

Shouldn't the scoring subside in time as the edge of the coil wears?

Hmm could always file it down too.

Thanks everyone.
I just removed the spring and filed off the burr.
Yes, reinstallation was a PITA but I got it back in.
Now everything is smooth as silk.
BTW, I use Li-Ion cells, so the continual scoring could have been a problem.

Ahhh ok I understand now. I've only used primaries in my stuff.
Good to hear it came through the operation ok.

Hmm what could you call it?.... A Spingdectomy?

SureFire designs it's spring contacts to ensure good electrical connection so the 'scoring' is a feature to cut through any contamination or oxidisation etc.

As noted this isn't an issue for using the intended SF123A's but a different approach needs to be employed for rechargeable batteries.

Good one!

Re: the scoring on Li-ion cells, I sometimes wonder whether or not this is a really a problem long-term. The AW cells I use are advertised as having a steel plate on the bottom to protect against spring-induced damage. Any idea how much scoring is too much?
