I ordered a Maelstrom G5 v2 (R5 model) from GoingGear on Dec 20 and it finally arrived today (shipping times from the US to Denmark suck). Here are some first impressions:
- Solid build quality, but the emitter isn't properly centered (off by 0.5 mm). However this doesn't affect the beam.
- Output on high is identical to the max level of my old Olight M20S. Max on the G5 dwarfs the Olight, especially at long range.
- This baby throws like crazy. No sign of the dreaded donut hole except in moon and medium mode at a distance of about 15 cm.
- The cigar grip ring can be removed without removing the rear o-rings, but don't try to put it back without taking them off. The threads in the grip ring cut an o-ring, when I tried.
- The holster is worthless. I cant remove the light without pulling hard enough to damn near rip the holster off my belt. Boo. Hiss.
- The G5 works perfectly with AW18650 2900 mah flattopped cells!!!
