Dorcy AA & AAA lanyard ring alternatives?

Now that a lot of people have AAA Dorcy LED lights and now that the AAs are becoming more available, does anyone know of an alternative to the crummy lanyard ring on these lights? If you've seen them, they are merely held into two small holes in the plastic tail switch by spring tension. They don't inspire confidence; I've already lost one ring and lanyard.

And another thing about the existing ring...
It actually holds the button switch on the tailcap.
So, if it's gone, you have to be careful when removing the cap during battery replacement. The button could fall and you'll be chasing it as it bounces/rolls around on the floor. [not that ...er I have done that before /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ]

Hey, how about drilling all the way through the button's existing holes. Then inserting a keyring or D-ring?
It might be easier on the AA since it is larger.
Whaddya think?

I've completely removed the metal ring and am just pocketing the light. Drilling would likely work, but would reduce its already questionable water-resistance. Also, I find the switch works better with the ring removed.

There are so many of these lights, plus ones like the Elektro Lumens Illumi-Lux that someone might make a proper Kroll-type switch for them.

I've also dabbled with the idea of a constrictor-style knot for a lanyard around the body below the tail-cap.
