I saw that article and I'm thinking about hooking up a 940nm LED to a variable frequency PWM circuit to see if I can detect anything at a specific frequency.
I remember another article from a few months ago where a couple of guys stated that they were able to extend their sensitivity very slightly into the IR range through some unusual dietary methods. I'm not inclined to try that one though.
