5w luxeon AA

Be careful of companies advertising 5w or 3w luxeon lights. Mostly they tend to mean a Luxeon III or Luxeon V led light. Unless you know bin, voltage and amps, you don't know for sure. They XM-3 appears to be less then 3W. BTW, I have one and think it is a good light. In fact it is my most used light that isn't pocket carry. It can use rechargables too. Nice light.

Well, that's what you want, right? Something with a known emitter with known performance?

Why do you care if it's a Luxeon III but not actually dissipating 3W? Is it as bright as it's claimed? Were you depending on X watts being dissipated because you needed the light to generate a minimum amount of heat?

Sheesh - we're talking photons out the front, not something like RF where power out really matters.

Mag 2D with 6AA battery adapter and 5 watt luxeon. It's very bright but it's size rather big for carry.
