Robert-
The rest of my prepay will be paypaled tomorrow morning... waiting for the weekend to firm up some options once I have a chance to play a bit... definitely want a clip, will pm tomorrow.
Greg

The options keep changing so I can't decide for sure what I would like.

I want the warm led, I want the clip(s) I want trits, but I don't know where yet, I want polished edges.
I haven't decided on the card.

Thats a little progress.

When is the deadline to decide options?

Okay, boys and girls... here"s a teaser for you. I have had in my lucky little paws for 24 hrs. now a Gen 1 Ti Chimera mini that I have been playing with and generally scaring my cats and dog and annoying my wife with. There will be a mini- review posted tomorrow after another night of trying to run down the battery and making the neighbors think I am crazy. :D I will be happy to answer any questions in the thread or via P.M., and will happily text message beamshots or comparison photos with any lights I own. I am really digging the beam on the Chimera. The slightly rectangular, almost television shaped beam is very even, all flood on the lower levels with no hotspot, and wow, a wall of light on the higher levels. More after dark tonight...:)

I have another Suprise in the works

Can you guess what it is?

I'll give you a hint... "SUN"

Sweet! Thanks again!

Don't Worry, I have something special planned for the clip
The prototype pics should be up this week
Ohh, The metal thickness on the clip will make it REALLY Strong :tinfoil:

Any more info on these two features?

Allrighty..

The Solar Panel option is still in the testing phase due to all
the rain we have been having over here in dreary Pennsylvania.

The Money Clip (belt clip) Is in the prototype stage with "wvaltakis2"
Here is his thread on the Ra Clickies:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=225325

And this is what the slip will roughly look like from a side profile shot.
RaClip.jpg

The Solar panel option is still in the works...
But the Dimensions of the panel are 7.1" x 4.5" x .25"
It is only capable of outputting 300mA with Full Sunlight.
That means if you wanted the solar charge option,
The charging circuit that is built-in to the light will have
to be adjusted to a 100mA charge rate. I am still working
out the details. I may even make the light have a dual-charge
current rating. What i mean is, When you plug the light into
any standard USB connection, It will charge at the 300mA rate.
But, If you plug the solar panel in, The charge rate switches
to 100mA. This will be standard on All Chimera Mini's. So when
you order the Solar Panel, All you do is plug it in :) Of course you
would need about 8hrs of sunlight to charge this thing up if
it was completely dead

More Details to come!

Sabrewolf,

I'm definitely interested in the clip - but cannot see how much it costs (some people are marked paid and have the clip as an option??).

Did I miss something?

Also, it would be good to see the clip potential positions, to make sure it doesn't interfere with where trit slots were chosen.

You didn't miss anything.. I don't have the price up because i haven't
gotten a quote yet. It "May" be 35$ installed, But don't quote me on it :sssh:
As for the Trit Slot interferance. It will come close to the "A" and "B"
slots seen below. But it won't cover them. If you wanted a "Bezel Down"
arrangment, Please omit trit slot "E". Otherwise the clip would hide it.

When i get the clip, I'll post some pics
in the first post, Along with the price.
:hitit:

All right- mini review time. i will try not to be too long winded.

First Impressions- Chimera mini showed up in a small gift tin, nicely wrapped. Taking it out of the box, it is a solid chunk of flashlight. The flat surfaces are asking for embellishment of some kind, engraving or one of the available finishes would be a natural. The lens is kind of a magnifying glass, and makes the MC-E look huge!

Carrying- Sabrewolf was kind enough to include a lanyard with clip, probably to make sure I didn't lose it! Works very well in the lighter pocket in a pair of jeans, no heavier than a multitool like I carry every day. I am personally going to get the pocket clip offered when I get mine, so as to have more carry options. Somewhere on my waistband when wearing shorts, clipped to the top of a boot, etc.

In use- The Chimera has a unique beam shape, somewhat square or rectangular. The lens seems to make the beam very even from corner to corner, edge to edge. On the lower levels, all flood which makes use very nice. No narrow beam that makes you "search" around with the light. There is a bit of crosshatch in the beam as a result of the magnifying the 4 die MC-E, but really is not noticeable unless you are viewing a flat surface of one color. In reality, not more noticeable than the edge of your hotspot or slight rings in some other lights.
The light tailstands nicely, which is good. It indexes in the hand well, using the 1/4-20 tripod hole or the lens as reference if you are not looking. The button works nicely, and the light obviously doesen't roll if on a flat surface. Even though this is a loaner, and a prototype to boot, it was subject to daily carry and use. I am a mechanic, so it was used quite a bit in place of a droplight. Under hoods, up on lifts, laying on the workbench, etc. Battery life is good. In two days of normal use, I was unable to kill the battery. This includes dog walking, and having everyone who saw it wanting to play...

All in all, a very useful design which I am looking forward to adding to my collection. The flat construction makes it disappear in carry, the even beam is very useful, and the cool factor is undeniable. It is obvious that a great deal of thought went into the design and execution, and it all works well.

I must say, I am looking forward to this more than anything else I've ordered in the last few months. Sabre, make them faster!

Are we likely to see any other finish/pattern options? What about the "X-men" across the front side (for those of us opting for the clip)?

Is the money clip going to be attached by the "wings" on both sides, a la Chip's Ra design? Could the body of the light itself be tapped and the clip screwed in place from the inside?

Will the solar charging option actually generate enough current that I could sell the surplus back to the power company? I ask because when this is all said and done, I may not have much cash to put in the clip.

Ohh, Yes, You can opt for the Frontside X-Men finish

The clip will be attached from the backside. It will look just like
Chip's Novatac clips. The "Ears" where the 2 screws go into the body will be
1" / 25mm wide. And the Clip prtion itself will be 3/4" / 15mm wide.
Just a fatter version of the Novatac clip, With the ears being Flat,
Instead of rounded for the barrel-shape.

No silly  :duh2: :) :)

:)

Do these pics remind anyone else of "War of the Worlds"? :aaa:
What, No one is interested in the lights anymore?
You betcha! In fact, :paypal: PM to follow

As much as I like the addt'l options, it was difficult enough for me to acquire the funds for the base price alone (which is very reasonable BTW :)). Pending price of the money clip I'll likely be interested in that. Just need to keep a few $ spare for when that option is priced out. For those that prepaid up to this point and who are also interested in the money clip, will you PM us as to the remaining balance due?

Hi,

please put me on the list, I am definitively in for one.
Cool white and blue glow.
No card, no moneyclip and no tripod mounting.

Thanks Jochen

Couple serious questions:

Could we see a pic of the voltage and charging LEDs lit up? I have an idea for tritium placement, but would like to see the LEDs in action first.

Difference between "pure blue" and "ocean blue"? I must have missed those on the linked website.
