Just mounted the head on a Streamlight Stylus Pro body. Certainly the slimmest powerful light I can think of. Got one with neutral tint thanks to my friends in Japan. On high, output is damn close to a Malkoff M60L (140+/- lumens) and beam is beautiful. Lots of talk about the using the SL Microstream body, but not much on the 2xAAA format, so I thought I'd share.

I'm only a few days away from this configuration myself - I only purchased my LD01 so I could get this config. I like the fact that you can get near-10440 output but also having the ability to run the AAA's down to zero. I'd be interested in any runtime info (on any/all the output levels) you can determine on 2xAAA alkaline.

I have a Sylus Pro, and I've tried to get the head off to no avail. I'm wary of damaging the anodizing or threads. Any tips?

Have you had any over-heating issues? Or havnt you left it on long enough to find out yet?...

Bring on the beamshots! A before and after would be nice... (original LD01 Beam and Modded Beam from the Streamlight)

I've been planning to run 2 X Eneloop in this config for the longest time, and am now thinking the LD01 should be my next AAA purchase before the LF2XT, and Avenger GX.

Now if someone discovers that the GX head also fits the Stylus Pro body, I might have to re-think. Anyone figure on trying this yet? :candle:

With a little extra leverage, the head will twist right off. I wrapped the head and body with rubber strips and secured them with vice grips.

maybe its just me, but IMO, any AAA torches that needs more than a single AAA pretty much defeats the purpose of an AAA torch i.e. compactness.
Why not just get a 2 x AA configuration?

I'll bet it would do great on two Energizer lithiums too. That would put the starting voltage at about 3.5V but with a lot of capacity, relatively speaking.

Because then its too fat to look like a pen, and to heavy to clip to your shirt pocket.

Fenix LD01 running on 2xAAA is so interesting that I decide to try my LD01 2AAA setup.

The light on the top is a cheap 2AAA pen light with three 5mm LED's, the body of which will be combined with the head of my LD01 SS. The light on the middle is my LD01 2AAA setup with the head of my LD01SS and the body of that 2AAA pen light.

This cheap light is non-branded.
While it is available in almost every commodity stores in Taiwan, I just don't know it's original source.

I don't know I've done the boiling (several times), and I used the elastics, and the strap wrenches and near everything else. I have one that I just can't separate. I don't have a good grippy vise mounted though.

I gave my first one away. Then I got another... no go... I've given a few away now, but never got one apart. I might try again one day.

Luckily that although the 2AAA form factor is a good mod for the LD01 (a super-duper-awesome light), I don't really need one in this format. Next time I make an order though I may get the streamlight and see if it's easier to open.

I'm just posting because the LD01

...and the LD01-SS :bow::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

Party On!
