Need a small, single CR123 light, with rotary intensity

I have an HDS Rotary which has been stellar. But now that spring is here, it "prints" too much in my pocket.

I have an older Surefire T1A from when they first came out. The newer ones have greater putput (my friend has a newer one).

I want a single CR123 light, rotary control, *no larger* than a Surefire T1A.

Should I just buy the most recent T1A or is there something else I should consider?

I have yet to find another light that's as good as the T1A, and I've been trying! I suppose a cheaper option would be the Nitecore D11 V2 but a lot of people have found them to be buggy. The Peaks had potential for me but it sounds like the ramping wasn't going to be smooth enough for my liking. I didn't care for the Sunwaymans at all but I think I'm in the minority on that one.

The Sunwayman V11r is even smaller than the V10r and should be released soon.
I have the V10a XPG and love the build quality, it's thinner than the hds rotary, so the V11 should be a great summer alternative. Much more affordable than a Surefire Titan

It may be a bit of a stretch, but have you considered a Muyshondt Nautilus?

It is a tiny CR123 twisty, but only has high/low output (twist for low, and turn farther for high). Expensive and hard to find, though

There are not too many really small variable output lights right now .... As curtispdx notes, a Peak Logan QTC with CR123 pocket body would be another option, though the variable output isn't nearly as smooth as those choices already mentioned by others.

Nice light - battery life at 500 lumens is pretty low.

I have yet to find another light that's as good as the T1A, and I've been trying!

Me too and I'm always searching for a "better" light than the one I have.

T1A is small, quiet, infinitely adjustable, lightweight with good battery life.

Upgrade yours to a XPG or XML and show your friend what he is really missing!

Think2x could do an emitter swap for you, not sure on the price for a Titan. I had him do a Novatac SO, and he did a beauty of a job

I know that DaFabricata has done some really nice T1A mods.
I've done some XM-L and XP-G mods to my own T1A lights and I will tell you that it is not a mod for the faint of heart - the LED is hard to get to - it takes time and patience. But the end result looks great and is good for around 150 lumens.
I think you would be looking at $75-$100 for the mod.

I was going to say there's nothing on the market like what the threadstarter wants, except another T1A. This, however, looks promising.

EDIT: Crap, it has a smooth reflector. Hold off until they fix that.

If you look around, there are vendors selling the Surefire T1a for about $175, which I think is reasonable for the quality and warranty you get.

Can someone explain to me why the Surefire T1a is so expensive compared to the AA & AAA lights available on the market with similar or better lumen output? Given, I'm a newbie when it comes to lights...

I just happened on this thread for the first time but the second I saw the title, the Jetbeam RRT-01 is what I had in mind. Much cheaper than the super slick bodied T1A, much, much wider range with a low that should make anyone happy and a high that will leave the T1A looking like a close up light.
Very compact, super high output, super low output, nicely knurled, extremely compact - just what the light doctor ordered.
