RecDNA- If I recall, Henry now offers software upgrade/repair services for modded lights? Emitter swaps are fairly inexpensive, and I understand pretty straightforward as those things go. Not future proof, but certainly able to be brought up-to-date if you're so inclined...

When HDS had clickys available for $99 that was the best deal ever, for that price you got a lot of light.

Oh good, someone got the joke! I was worried some folks didn't notice that I quoted myself there and took both extremist views for the sake of comedic relief.

Note: I have had like 8 HDS lights so clearly it was a joke.

The warranty is great, no doubt. I was commenting on the robustness/longevity, their internal hardware seems to be their trouble spot IMO. What makes them so techy and fun also contributes to the internal issues that seem to occur with them.

Ok, that's much better than what it once was. I still remember when people were waiting MONTHS (years?) for their HDS orders to be filled. I was wondering how one could get hooked on the "junk" with those kind of wait times, LOL

The only place that the light really matters is when you're using it and though this point gets thrown out there from time to time the only people that think HDS lights are beautiful aesthetically are owners who have learned to love the look because it's attached to the function of the light they've learned to love.

I was never going to have one, but having them is the only way to get what we like about them and doing paper comparisons will always be frustrating for those who shop that way and that way only.
There is no boutique factor for me or the majority of other owners here. Using and owning them is what got me hooked and most of them came through the MarketPlace where I never had to pay the new price. I guess there are two that I got new from Henry, but if someone is curious about a light the best way to find out what they think (as opposed to what they think they think) is to buy a used one and sell it off again at usually no loss, sometimes a profit, if they really don't like it.

+1 very well said. I'll add that if buying pre-owned isnt for you and still want a great deal illum supply still has 170n 219b clickys for under 200 and rotary for 210 both with free shipping...just tossing that out there.

I waited a few weeks past a year for my first Clicky, and don't consider it time wasted. It sure would have been nice for Henry to make even a small attempt to keep us updated. Luckily, now the wait is reasonable, and Hogo has been very helpful.

Had it, or the 219B from Illumination Supply, been over $300, I seriously doubt I'd have bought them.

It is a bit annoying that the thread title is so similar to the other Junkie thread.

What do you mean by "incremental upgrades"? Is Henry in the process of upgrading the Rotary in some way. Didn't the LED just get upgraded?

One drop on concrete from about 4' and it was out of commission.

What model was it? The Twisties suffered from dislodged U-wires sometimes, but the Clickies have been potted and cushioned like mad forever. I can't remember the last problem that I read of that was caused by impact. Most common issues seem to be firmware glitches.
