I was wondering what lights, if any, there are out there using the 27L reflector?(custom or not) Of course there is the 27LT-S and the lux 3/5 varieties, any others?

Ian :)

Hey Ian!

Pablo is looking at the McR-27L in one of the two variations for the Pineapple head.

After a quick search, besides some modding, not too many lights...

Here's one that H22A did a little while back, the "BHC" or big head conversion for the Mini Mag which uses the 27L reflector. I have mine on a stock 3 AA Mini Mag and really like what it did for this light. I won't bore anyone with my thoughts on this reflector, we all know how awesome it is...

The S27 and XR27 heads of the McLuxIII-Ti-Series use the 27L reflector, too.
And I wanna see more lights with this one and a Seoul, too. I'd like to repeat myself ... Aleph27L ... :D :D ... bring it on, Don! :poke:

Looking for these?

The head on the pineapple hosts a McR-27XR reflector for the CREE XRE. The other one hosts a McR-27L reflector for the Luxeon-III. Both heads were made by TranquillityBase.

The McR-27L is such a great reflector when mated with a Lux-III. I'm hoping there will be a verson for the Seoul P4 to be made available for purchase.

Thanks for the replies everyone

jch79 now that would be cool, if only I hadn't sold my pineapple body :ohgeez: , the 79 in your name is that your B'day? '79 is good year :D

Tx trouble maker I was tempted by a BHC when H22A was starting them, I don't think I knew as much about the 27L then. I should've got one :)

Kiessling, thats what I want, Aleph-27L
I had forgotten about the S and XR-27 heads

Wave particle, thats just plain cruel :D
Thats some beautiful lights you have there! I have begged TB to consider making me a head, he said he may be able to in a couple of months, he's busy with other exciting builds before then.

thanks, Ian :)

but I lost your address so please send it to me so I can send you a loaner. This polished Ti 27L to tote around and keep you company until your III-T comes back home. I know it`s not your beloved III-T but it`s a pretty nice light my friend.

I'd very very shocked if the Shoppe doesn't have them at some point. The 27L/P4 is simply a great combo, if the McLuxIII-27LT-S is any indication.

easilyled,
The McR-27XR is a cut-down version of the McR-27L.
:) john

Thanks John - yes I realised that as I had seen both the diagrams
before. :)

I think I was trying to say that I would consider the 27XRE to be
a separate reflector altogether since it would require a different
sized head to fit in (or at the least an offshoot of the 27L).

WP, excuse my ignorance here because I don't know much about the
McR-27L.

What is the reason that a SSC-P4 L.E can't be used in the light with the
McR-27L setup?

Is it maybe because the hole in the reflector doesn't allow the L.E to go
up into it like the McR27 in an Aleph1 ?

The the dome of the SSC-P4 emitter is bigger than the Lux-III's. Combine this with the fact that the opening of the McR-27L fits the Lux-III very snuggly means that the SSC-P4 will not fit. It has to be modified somewhat to make the hole bigger and perhaps a little bit of the reflector will need to be shaved off so the SSC-P4 can be focussed properly. It can be done, because Don did it with the S27-PD. We just need to wait until the Shoppe starts carrying these.

...and I have just seen TnC do a head with a 27L reflector in their SF series, I'd love to get one on an aleph body but think they are not compatible :(

Ian :)

You can create an Aleph compatible 27L head with a 6P (or similar) bezel and an E2C adaptor. It's not a trivial mod unless you have a lathe, but it can be done. I've posted about one I did and I've seen a couple other folks post about theirs so there are a couple out there

now thats a set-up Jeff!
are those parts still available? I do love the 18650 as a long running power source. That would be a perfect light, for sale ;)
