Hi gang,

I'm in the market to purchase this HID brand new and as a package deal with the following included items listed below. I don't know exactly how much extra run time the 4800mah battery gives rather than the 4000mah, but I just assume it's worthwhile to have the higher capacity battery.

I'd like to know if the forum can recommend a dealer with the best price and reputation. Like anyone else, I'm looking for the deal of the year on this expensive purchase. Any comments or suggestions from CPF members on this purchase or the accessories I'd like to purchase with it would be greatly appreciated. Basically it'll be used while on walks in the woods, boating, home emergency light, etc. Thanks in advance.

AC/DC chargers
Diffuser lens only (for occasional floodlight operation)
4800 Mah battery
Battery charger stand (for charging future extra battery)
Lens/end cap protectors
Shoulder strap
Travel case (case must hold all of the above)

***I assume the primary battery can be charged while connected to the
flashlight and a spare battery can be charged from a charger stand.

I believe Pacific Tactical Solutions has a great deal on the Xenide 25W:

Contact Mike (the store owner) and he'll give you a discount. Per his store policy I'm not allowed to say exactly how much.

For accessories I highly recommend looking around. Try not to settle for one store, you can get great deals at different places.

I purchased my two AE lights at PTS also. He's a nice guy and provides good service with a personal touch.

Hi Patriot,

Wow, you have two of them, very nice. You'd be the one to ask this question. Can the Li-ion batteries be left on the charger indefinately? If not, what would happen if I forgot about it being on the charger over night? Thanks.

AE lights come with a charger that can not be left alone overnight. Their battery charger has an LED which turns green to indicate a full charge. If you leave the battery on the charger for an extended period after the charge is complete the battery will go into a protection mode and you will have to perform a procedure on the light to bring the battery back into a normal operating mode.

Hey CajunJosh,

Thank you for the information. When I get this flashlight, I'll have to make sure this situation never happens.

If it does happen it's pretty easy to bring the battery out of safe mode but AE doesn't recommend allowing it to happen as it can damage the battery. At least AE's replacement parts are reasonably priced.

The "protection mode" trick only worked with the first generation of batteries. The current ones have a non-resettable protection, and the only way to fix it (without voiding your warranty) is to send it back.

Sorry I was late seeing your question Richie, but it looks like the others got you taken care of. My AE lights are the AE PL24/S and the Xenide25. Both have been great lights. The PL24/S even saved me from a miserable rainy night in the forest about a year and a half ago. I guess you could say we bonded after that experience.

Hi Gang,

Does anyone know if any changes or upgrades to the AE Xenide 25W spotlight will be unveiled at the January 2009 SHOT Show?

I wish I could get my butt to Las Vegas on the 16th for this show.

There was a new light revealed last year at SHOT:

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=186704&highlight=xenide

It had a release date of April/May 2008, but they've pushed it back since. As of now there's no news, but there might be something under wraps at SHOT '09... who knows.

I'll hold for another couple of weeks before purchasing anything. My only problem with the AE Xenide 25W is the 6500K color temperature. I would have considered it the ultimate hand held with a much warmer 4200k-4300k bulb.

Hi folks,

Now that the Vegas SHOT show is underway, has anyone heard of any improvements to the AE Xenide 25W HID like a 4300k lamp or whether a more powerful 35W 4300k is coming?

I would assume if nobody has heard anything, than it isn't. If a 4300k version isn't coming, I decided to find the closest equivalent hand-held (Mag-Style) that does come with a 4200k-4300k lamp and most likely will purchase it.

Maybe someone can recommend a great hand-held (Mag-Style). After seeing how much better my POB's are with the new 4300k bulbs compared to the 6000k, I certainly favor a warmer color temp to the point I doubt I'll be purchasing anything that doesn't come with it or can't be upgraded to it. Thanks in advance.

Here's an email I received a few days ago from AELight:

If you are planning on attending this years Shot Show in Orlando, please make a point of stopping by our booth #9505.
On display will be our HID Xenides, Top Gun MK1 & P.I. tactical flashlights, new HID ballasts, and prototypes of soon-to-be-released lights.
Hope to see you there.

...but that was pretty much the same thing they said about last year's SHOT:

This years Shot Show is just around the corner and we wanted to remind those of you attending we will be in the Law Enforcement area at booth #7711. Please stop by and have a look at some of our new items.

On display will be our new TOP GUN LED Tactical Flashlight, AE Xenides, and new accessories. You will also get a sneak peek at a couple of new HID lights scheduled for release in April & May.

See you there.

To be honest we've been waiting for this new HID release since last year (coincidentally I posted this a day shy of one year):

It seems most companies have yet to release their highly anticipated prototypes, including SureFire. It's really been quite disappointing.:sigh:

As for tube-style HIDs I think your best bet is still the Xenide, all things considered.

The back half of last year really did stink for new products.....ones that had been promised but never came to be, with surefire being the worst of them all.

It's too bad that AE doesn't recognize the benefits of the warmer color temperature because it could really be an amazing light if they lowered it. Even something in the 5000K neighborhood would be great.
