Guys, Leef has been stretched thin as of late (and no, he's not on the rack!)... allow me to field some of these...

Would Titanium Nitride (TIN) be possable?

Yes, I believe it is. Would be contingent on finding a plater interested in doing only a few pieces OR running another 100 or so... not sure if the latter would generate interest, though I'm hopeful that it would.

I'm not sure the gorgeous machining design would 'pop' in a dark finish, like black. I think it needs a shinier finish; Ti, Gold, Sterling Silver, or maybe Chrome.

Agreed... and note the nickel plating is very similar to what chrome would look like.

As for black, IMHO it would work if the finish were glossy, to catch the light.

I'd love one in a rainbow type colour. Sort of like the Kershaw and SOG knives.

That would be CRAZY! (As in good!) Not sure how one achieves such a finish however.

Definitely deserves a shiny chrome-ish black, not a matte black. That said, there are some really nice black-chrome-ish platings out there, however few and far between they may be.

Deep in my crazed mind are visions of a follow-up "Goth" with the same approach to machining, only in a 123a form-factor, in Ti, with an AlTiN coating.
But until that day, I'll just keep goading Milky/Leef about making a highly polished shiny black creation with one of the bodies they've stashed away.

We have a handful of unplated Gotham hosts tucked away for alternate platings... the key would be first finding somebody willing to take on such a small number of pieces for plating, then finding such a shop who also would do a top-notch job. Any suggestions always welcomed!

I already created a couple 1xRCR123 lights I called the 'Goth'... they were built in Amilite hosts since we didn't have a Gotham-styled 1x123 body at the time. I agree that would be a neat light, and have poked Leef once in a while regarding that possibility. Not sure when such a thing might materialize but remain hopeful!

Are there any neat, can't live without upgrades available yet?

I've updated the firmware since Gotham was produced... it's not all that mind-blowing of an update, but does tighten up the code some as well as greatly diminish the likelihood of ever seeing what was always a once-in-a-blue moon annoying little bug in the prior iteration. I don't consider it a must-have update but anyone interested, I can certainly upgrade the firmware on their light.

I'm also putting the finishing touches on another, more feature-oriented firmware update... among other things, it would allow folks to dumb-down the UI to dual stage or even single stage if they were so inclined. (Like when loaning the Gotham to your mother, who barely understands how to work a computer mouse! Such as my mother.) ;)

Some other possible caiabilities, too, but I'd rather not mention them until sure they're working properly.

Any news on a Ti run?

Absolutely no news that I'm aware of. We seem trapped in a catch-22 here: can't commit the upfront resources to a Ti run without sufficient interest, but it's uncomfortable to ask a bunch of people to prepay what would no doubt be a substantial sum for a light that would be some time from completion. What to do, what to do?

i don't suppose that any of us newcomers (after the gotham was released) will see another run/variant? its truly a shame, I would love to get in on another run exactly as you have it except maybe a newer emitter...beautiful work!

It already utilizes a hand picked P4, can't get much better than that right now. Post a WTB, they have been up for sale in the B/S/T.

SFG2Lman, I've got a single Gotham body in raw aluminum on hand for a build, and could put some other emitter with a higher max brightness into the light... for example, perhaps a CreeXRE-R2WD with max drive of 1.3A for max brightness of 322 lumens and min brightness of perhaps 0.23 lumen. That's certainly achievable! CreeXPG might also be a good match, or perhaps Luxeon K2-TFFC. But as soon as someone claims that last unit, we would indeed need to do another run, which could take a while.

More on this last unit: I could perhaps send it to Modamag for plating so long as the buyer is willing to cover the appropriate plating charge.

Price would be the same as all the others, namely $325 for the complete light. I could load it with custom firmware at no additional charge if you wish. It also comes with the custom waterproof hardcase, wrist lanyard, and other goodies that all the others had included.

i have wanted one of these since the first time i laid eyes on one, i am headed overseas at the end of this week, but i would love to purchase one with my next paycheck, would it be possible to have you send it to my wife? i find them so beautiful from an engineering and a physical point of view, actually, now that i think about it..my wife might murder me, she just got on disability because of her back and they can't do surgery because she is pregnant (my second kid is on the way!!! woo!!) but this has made a dent in our savings as she is no longer working, i guess i will wait for the next run, somebody buy this last one up so i can get the next run! lol once again this is a gorgeous light, its like flashlight porn!

Scott, can you build one with a SST-50 driven so hard you can with 2 CR123 cells.
And Gold plated by Jonathan?

If so I'll will take onother one .

Cheers

I'd just add in that the Gotham is one of the lights I kick myself for not buying. If you ever make any sort of similar run, perhaps not with the extravagant LEEF body I'd be very interested.

Well, congrats, Proline.

I've been tempted by one of these, but I'd be afraid to take the beauty into the woods.

SFG2Lman, I have a Gotham that Scott re-built with an R2, as he mentioned. It is a beautiful piece. Whether to go with the K2 or the R2 is something I would leave to Scott. He does awesome work. He's already done 4 or 5 mods for me and is working on a Cree MC-E Novatac mod now.

Mine is my current EDC, updated by Milky shortly before his exit. Beautiful, but also a real workhorse of a light.
