i keep staring at the generic 35W hid from TacticalHID and was wondering if anyone if anyone finds a use for one on a regular basis. when somone asks about them people respond and say "read this, this, and that and move on"
i'm not sure why i'm stuck on the whole tube design, maybe i should drop it and just go get a stanley.

perspectives would be nice as would potential lights under $500

Maybe the tube style is naturally what comes to mind when you think "flashlight".:) I use my AE Xenide all the time, it's a great light. In my opinion a tube-style light feels more natural in my hands, which is why I prefer the PF50 over the PH50. Yes, it's big and heavy, but it just feels way more comfortable to use.

Until a little while ago conventional tube-style HIDs were of high color temperature, low power (comparatively speaking) and potentially expensive, which is probably the reason why folks were recommending you a non tube-style HID. For its price point the 35W is not a bad light. If you're on the fence I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up.
