I would like to modd - not myself - one of my T3 TIROS with a more performant emitter than LUXEON III.
Should the flashlight be modded with a CREE Q5 or with a SSC P4 emitter ? Which one of from those 2 will be more suitable for the best throwing with TIROS optics ?
How big will be the difference in throwing after that ? The lux nr. at one meter will be double or triple than before ??
Thank you!

Normally an SSCP4 works as the best direct replacement for a Lux III. Same emission pattern. Usually about 50% more- maybe double at best ...2 or 3 times as much...wishful thinking. It depends on the driver already in the light. It's usually a very impressive difference, but unless someone has done the mod-- it's just a guess.

Problem is, not many people have been able to get the darn T3 apart without destroying the light. The Innova lights are not mod friendly.

I think a few people have opened a TIROS Inova without cracking the optic ... not sure

Anyway, yes, you must use an SSC P4... and get the brightest bin which is out now (?). Will need one of those copper spacers under the SSC as well so it will be just like the Luxeon that it replaces. (SSC is a little thinner than Luxeon).

Good luck with the TIROS mod. I've thought of trying to mod the old T1 once... nice single CR123A light. But with the new 2008 Inova's it makes no sense at all.

I've seen a few modded Inovas here.

The Seoul P4 would work best. You'll need a spacer though(check sandwich shoppe).

Thank you for all those advices, guys! I will ask the modder to use a SEOUL P4 in this case and I will pray the TIROS optics won't be damaged!
