First i like to introduce myself.
My name is Peter en i am from the Nederlands.
So if my spelling is off, i hope you dont hold it against me :)

My question is:
What is the best reflector for a 100 watt bulp from Philips type 7724.
This is a type Gy 6.35 bulp.

My original reflector had a sweet spot with 50 watt, but this bulp is much bigger.

Anyone any ideas??

Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't have an inexpensive answer for you. I have a high-power maglite, in which I'm currently running an Osram 64623. It's a Gy 6.35 bulb similar to the one you mention. I've had the same problem using a stock maglite head and metal reflector; the bulb is really too big for optimum throw.

So, I've stepped up to one of Fivemega's creations, a FM3H-3 head. It's 50% wider than the stock maglite head (3 inches versus 2 inches in diameter) and is large enough to really throw using a 160 watt superbulb. Others have had good luck with another Fivemega creation, the throwmaster. A quick search on the forums turn up more info.

Hi Peter,

Nice to see another new member from the Netherlands that is cought by this beautifull virus..
I hope you'll never recover !! It's a beautifull hobby..

Some 35 years ago (13 years young), I started to play with the same type of bulb and a VW-beetle headlight reflector (which were high quality parabolic). And look where I am now..

What I like to know is what your intentions are: You didn't mention a desired reflector diameter.
I still have a spare Thor 15Mcp reflector with O-ring and front window.. You can have that for free if you want.. But the diameter is aprox 23cm, and I'm not sure that it will perform well:
It's designed for the big filaments of those dual filament 100/150 Watt (H4) bulb.
I guess you want to use a small filament short life high power bulb.. Then the reflector form must be more accurate to make the entire reflector play along for high throw..

First tell us more about your plans..

Welcome to CPF..

Regards,

Ra.
