Hi,

I'm new here, so this is my very first posting. I'll be surfing around this fantastic forum later on this evening, but in the meantime, since I tend to go to extremes, I thought I'd ask some of you regular posters on here, what are the brightest flashlights out there, whether it is throw or spread ?

I know of a few like the Wolfeye super storm, which is pretty powerful, but it retails $399. Do I have to pay that much to get the top, or it's possible to get something as powerful for below $400 ?

Much thanks in advance

jetbeam RRT-3
Thrunite Catapult V2
are a couple that come to my mind

My favorite bright light is the Fenix TK40 and it runs on AA batteries!

When you say the brightest, do you mean the brightest LED? HID lights are WAY brighter but are more $$. The brightest LED that I know of is the Olight SR-90 (yes, it is near $400). I am going to assume you are talking about Lumens and not Lux? If you are talking about an LED with the most Lumens, you have a few options.

1) Olight SR-90 (best by a mile)
2) Thrunite Catapult V2
3) EagleTac M2XC4
4) Jetbram M1X
5) Tiablo ACE-G
6) Lumapower MVP

If you are talking about LUX
1) Tiablo A10-G
2) Jetbeam RRT-1
3) Deerlight DBS
4) Catapult V2
5) M2CX4

Understand that most HID will blow all of the above away. The SR-90 is the only one that can even come close to HID. You can get a Titanium innovations L35 HID which will blow all of the above LED lights away for about $280.

Factory or custom? Budget? Heheh $400 is not alot is the world of the big flashlights.

For "throw" lights I would add the Solarforce Masterpiece Pro 1. It is number 2 behind the A10G (You won't see the difference). And pretty cheap at about $70 including a host body from Solarforce. Also...the SR90 beats them all in throw also. It is the top in both categories. But for me...I don't want any light that comes with a shoulder-strap to carry it.

Lambda sst-90 knocks the competition for a loop at a fraction of the price.

The brightest flashlight cost much more than $400, but you can compare some of the better lights here.

Is there any disadvantage to HID lights as opposed to LED ones like run time, durability etc. ?

What do you guys think of EagleTAC so far as overall quality ? Any issues that I should be aware of ? I could be mistaken, but it looks like, they're hot products (no pun). It looks as though they provide a good throw/flood balance.

I'm totally open to other suggestions, I'm here to learn.

Thanks

But the TK40 will still outthrow the TK45.

True, but throw distance was not mentioned as a priority by the original poster, only brightness.

As a side note, I was fully prepared to sell my TK40 when the TK45 was announced, but since the new big kid on the block doesn't throw as far as the old one, I'm for sure not ditching my TK40.

I love my Eagletacs. I have the T20C2 (R2) version (great thrower) and the P20C2 Mark II XP-G (great little flood light). I've never had a problem with either of them. I'd really like an M2XC4 but I'm waiting for the 3 X XP-G version. I'm also waiting for the SST-50 version of the M2C4. Whichever comes out first will find a home in my house!

The Stanley HID starts right up doesn't it?

Some HID's has a fast start circuit that overdrives the light but it is not instantaneous, it takes a few seconds. If you want just to use a short flash to see something, this is still to slow.
