Anyone recommend a cheap spotlight, as long at it has a 12v7Ah SLA battery, uses a standard 55w car bulb (eg. H1, H3 or H7) and is available to the UK I don't mind how cheap and nasty it is.

I had a look around DIY stores today, but they don't give info on the boxes such as bulb and battery type, just the number of candles you'd need for the same amount of light, but are those standard candles, church ones, birthday ones or Santa shaped ones  I asked the help desk, but they just looked at me funnily.

Unfortunately they don't seem to think that the information is relevant, all the dumb public need to know is that it is a big bright light, never usually any mention about the fifteen to twenty minute runtime, just buy me I'm bl**dy bright.

P.S. The only way I've ever been able to find out what globe is in the light is to insist on needing a spare globe and let them run around trying to find out what the replacement is, then if it's not what I'm after I just thank them for the information and look somewhere else. Try your local sporting goods, hardware, camping or car accessory shops. You can usually judge what battery is in a light by the size of the case, they don't seem to use many different batteries.

Given up trying to find a cheap flood light and given up on getting a POB in the UK.

I just bought a H3 4300K 35W HID kit off ebay, I have a couple of nice 4in spot lights here and I'm sure there is an old Peli case at work that will hold two (or more) 12v7Ah SLA and the ballasts.

However, I'm already thinking I should have gone for the 50w HIDs.

Re: Budget

I work with several spot lights and that is a good one. I for the most part use a 1k mole Fres, and have 3 of them. They will light up a small stage area but are really not the best. I have used 2 K and a 4 K and I like them better since you can adjust the throw of the beam. I am in the media and and that is my 2 cents.

They are just cheap car spot lights I have, but I like your idea. I'll probably need to focus them with shims.

I couldn't find the Peli case, ended up with a smaller Fibox with clear lid, so will probably fit some 1/4 watt LEDs as well for a work light. The Fibox can also be wall mounted if I need to fix it somewhere perminantly. It won't look pretty, but should do the job (light up to the far side of a 5 acre field).
