Hello all, this is my first post on this forum, although I used it for research some years ago.

I am a happy owner of an ARC-P AAA light which I always carry in my pocket, and, until recently, I used a Pelican M6 LED for my work as a live sound engineer. I recently lost this flashlight after a gig and was looking for a replacement. I was happy with the M6, bright and with good construction (perhaps a bit on the heavy side), but had an issue with the expensive batteries it used.

I am looking for recomendaqtions on a substitute with similar size, brightnes and quality construction, preferably with cheaper battery requirements.

I bought the M6 years ago, so I would guess there would have been some advances in LED technology to allow for a better flashlight of similar characteristics.

Thanks in advance.

The trick with cr123's is to not buy the batteries in a store. Grab them online from batterystation, batteryjunction, or some other reputable seller you can trust. The prices are 1/6 what you'll pay in most stores (less than 2 dollars for a surefire branded cell). You can also go with fenix for an inexpensive but high quality multimode that uses AA batteries. There's alot of options out there these days.

Rechargable RCR123 are also worth your consideration if you are diligent enough not to over charge / discharge them. You might also want to consider a headlamp, if you need hands free operation.

The M6 is still considered a top-tier light... IMHO. Just because its not ultra bright does not mean its useless. That light emits around 50 Lumens IIRC, thats more than enough for most tasks around the house.

What were some things besides battery $$$ that you didn't like about the M6? What ares are you looking to improve upon?

Oh yeah, happy holidays and :welcome:

The output should be similar that of the Pelican M6 LED, AA or rechargeable would be nice, but depends on what is out there. Not completely closed off to getting another M6, but would like to know my alternatives.

I would like something in a similar size. Moneywise... I can go a bit more than the M6, probably no more than $100 (I should think that would get me a decent light).

Things that I would improve upon... perhaps a bit less weight would be nice (but still need good, durable construction), ability to attach a lanyard.

I didnt know there were rechargeable CR123 s

Headlamp is not an option. Would look too geeky and I need to keep the respect of musicians to keep them behaving.

Thanks guys

You could always get a surefire G2 and malkoff M60LL. well under budget, similar (a little higher I think actually) output, and 8 hours on one pair of cr123a's.

hihi, You will hold Your breath when seeing what actual lights can power out ...

that Pelican looks like the "usual SF 6P" clone to me, so 2 CR123 batts as power source.
imho, with that size of light, there is only ONE battery configuration useful, especially when using the light often:
a rechargeable 18650 Li-Ion cell

The best production light in that class that I have is the Jetbeam Jet III Pro ST. Very versatile and programmable to Your needs/wants. Runs good with any 18650.
A multicell charger for Li-Ion costs some 15,-- (can charge CR123s, 14500, 17500, 17650, 18650, ...), the usual 18650 light runs as high as the 2 CR123 ones, but for longer time - there is more power inside the 18650.
All with lights that are of the same size.
ONLY downside: this is no single use purchaseable battery size, only rechargeable

If AA cells fit You better:
Fenix LD20, a tad longer, a tad less diameter, the 18650 lights are better to grip
