After two years on the forum, I just got my first McLux product, a Ti PD with UV1J yesterday. I don't relish parting with it so soon but... I have a Lionheart and a RAW U-Bin. Can you give me an idea of the relative brightness increase (% increase ?) and tint color of the Cree mod as it relates to the LH and RAW?

Sorry I don't do LH or raw :p

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my above post. What I meant to say is what would my Ti PD tint and brightness look like after being modified with the Cree as compared to my RAW and LH? Warmer, cooler and how much brighter or less bright.

BVH,

I can't tell you that for two reasons. 1) I currently don't own either one
of those lights so I can't compare 2) Both the LH and RAW is direct driven
and is not regulated, so it will greatly depend on what state the battery
is in. The first 2 minutes will drop very rapidly in the LW and raw. I know,
I've owned those before. It will also depend on the condition of your Li-ion
as they develop internal resistance as time goes one.

Basically, those two lights are not good benchmarks. They vary too much
to do a proper comparision.

My PD has the new gdx2 converter. They are set at 20ma and 550ma.
The cree P3 is spec'd between 74 to 80 lumens at 350ma.
Cree told me at 700ma it's 1.7x the 350ma rating. So at 700ma this
puts the manufacturer's rating between 125 to 136 lumens.

550ma is 78.5% of 700ma.

78% of 125 is 98 lumens (from the bulb)

take about 10% loss from the reflector and you're around 90 lumens. :D

disclaimer - this is just a mental exercise and are not actual measured
results :)

But from ceiling bounce experience, this thing puts out as much as a
Lux V :) Quite amazing for only 550ma!!

I hope someone can do some output tests soon on these :)

About the tint, I'm currently using WC bins which is roughly equivalent to
luxeon's XO.

:D

Since the wiz2 and GD are current regulated drivers, the runtime will ultimately
depending on the Vf. The runtime should be very similar if not identical.

4x7s, I am curious about this mod.

If you don't mind my asking, for this mod - did you:

- use a bare emitter with a custom heatsink,
- a star-mounted Cree,
- trim the Cree to fit in the divot for the Lux, or
- re-shape the divot to fit the Cree.

This mod is easily reversable since I did not modify the head. You simply
would need a new reflector and another Luxeon III.

Anyone ever consider the CREE in a HDS U60 ???

So much more room when programming your brightness levels :)

You know, I shipped out to quickly and didn't get to snap pictures of it.

It is actually enroute to chevrofreak to take estimated lumens readings
before going to kid9p. :D

Hey Guys,

As soon as I get it back from Chevrofreak, I'll post pics of it along
with the lumens readings.

Rumor has it that it may be in the 150 Lumen range:huh: .....W O W!

We'll just have to wait and see.

I got the XR-E modded PD and 27LT today. Damn, I'm almost speachless at how freaking bright these things are!

The numbers I got are:

McGizmo 27LT XR-E high 1731 (estimated 123.64 lumens)
McGizmo 27LT XR-E low 236 (estimated 16.86 lumens)

McGizmo PD XR-E high 1338 (estimated 95.57 lumens)
McGizmo PD XR-E low 69 (estimated 4.93 lumens)

Keep in mind these numbers are estimated, but my sphere and formula have proven to be pretty darned accurate in the past.

Taking into account losses from the reflector and window and these LED's are really putting out a lot of light.
