I wouldn't...Surefire says primaries only. Having said that, I do use 2 LiFeP0 3.0V rechargeables in my LX2 - but I keep them charged and use ONLY a 3.0V charger.
If I were you, I'd stay away from 3.7 volt anything.

the LX2 only take 3.0v?

A 3.7v 17670 LiIon should work pretty well (although the LX2 will be somewhat underdriven in this configuration - runtime should be excellent with this single-cell setup), except reports are that the body is slightly too narrow for the 17mm cell and would need to be bored just a bit. Check out the main (huge, multipart) LX2 thread here in the /LED subforum for more info.

FWIW, YMMV, I have yet to use any primaries in my KX2C, E2DL and my LX2 heads(I like to use VG FB2 bodies). I'm on my 5+ charging cycle[2 x 3.7V RCR123's protected(blue)/unprotected(MP)] with my EDC LX2 and its still as bright as the day I purchased the light.

I've also used 1 x RCR123's in a VG FB1. But like what Kestrel said, it is probably being underdriven, BUT, its still brighter than my Novatec 120P.

I have used over a month 2 x AW RCR123 3.7v cells.
Light works and both levels are equal as using primaries.

So my guess is buck circuit can handle extra voltage.

If it can`t then there would be higher high and higher low.

See example for E2L http://light-reviews.com/surefire_e2l/

Doesn´t matter if i am right or wrong. This is the only way to find out.

thanks for all the replies,

what is the meaning of primaries?

Received my LX2 a couple months ago. Ran a set of primaries through it then honed out the body so it'll take 17670 Li-ion. Love it!! Good runtime... and while not as bright as when it's run on primaries it is definitely brighter than my E2DL.
Only had to take out about 1/10 of a millimeter for the new cells to fit.

17670 luvin' for 50% more watt-hours over 2xRCR! :twothumbs
