New guy here. Gave my last flashlight (older Dorcy) to the girlfriend so I'm lookin' for something new.

I stumbled across some info on the Fenix L1D. The specs look incredible for a single AA battery. Anyone using one? What's your take?

The Fenix L1D is a great light for EDC. Easily switched between low and turbo. It uses the same head as the P2D so you can pick up an extra body and have the functionality of different battery types. I picked up the combo pack from fenix-store and love it. The L1D is what I carry everyday.

I also picked up the combo pack from Fenix Store. I am carrying the P2D version as EDC because it is a little bit shorter. (I don't want to invite any "Is that a flashlight in your pocket or are you just glad to see me" jokes!). However, the L1D output is very close to the P2D output (at least with a nimh rechargeable AA) and will serve you well.

I am not a fan of the turbo mode on either the P2D or L1d. For my eyes, the difference between the two modes is pretty small. It doesn't seem worth the effort of twisting the bevel to get those last few lumens of output.

Really like mine - it's eveything it's cranked up to be. The only down side is that it's a little wider than some other 1AA lights since the same head has to also accommodate a 1xCR123 battery body (to make an L2D). Plus side is that you can get a spare body/tail switch and have 2 lights. It has unbeatable battery efficiency...

L1D Q5 . You can get an 8% CPF discount at fenix-store.com by using the code CPF8. Fenix makes great lights and fenix-store.com is a stand up distributor.

Many, Many people have that light and they like it.

Fenix Store would be a good place to shop, and don't forget the 8% off coupon in the above post. I would recommend the Powerpack, the CR123 battery will give you an even higher output on turbo(150-160 lumen out the front on turbo).

If you want to go cheap, I would recommend a good reviewed Cree/Rebel/Seoul LED light on Dealextreme(like this one).

If you think those specs look good for a 1AA light, look at these specs.

One more vote for the combo pack. I also carry the P2D as an EDC, because I don't want to lose the turbo mode.

I go through about 1 CR123 battery per 2-3 months of carrying the light, and at $10 for 4, I find that I can afford it.

I also have the AA bodies in case I need to use readily-available batteries.

I have ordered the new L1D Q5 from Fenix Store, with stated max brightness of 120 lumens. That brightness from a single AA battery is impressing! If I am not wrong it's corresponding to about the brightness of a Maglite D3 with the standard krypton bulb.

This isn't exactly a well-researched comment, but I would think the L1D would actually be brighter. (Of course, the maglite will throw better w/ its relatively giant reflector)

DavidC - some 1xAA lights to look at are:
Fenix L1D CE Q5
Nitecore Defender Infinity
Olight T15 Q5

they all have the same amazing specs as the L1. Those stats are about right, but they're rated at the emmitter - to convert to actual lumens, say maybe 70% is out the front. This exagerated rating is about the same for all modern flashlights.

Long-time user of the L1D CE - very nice light. Small, elegant-looking, bright, runs great on NiMH's (even li-ion).

Some say the interface is complicated with all the different modes available. I do not share that opinion. I use my L1D as if it were an L1T, with high and low modes only. I have no use for the other levels of light, and they haven't gotten in the way of my usage either.

The L1D CE is very well made (near Surefire quality), has excellent beam characteristics for a tiny reflector, and runs forever on the low setting. Hardly anyone has a bad word about that model.

Wow, excellent responses folks. The L1D Q5 came in the mail today -- I simply can't believe that a single AA cell can produce this kind of output. Thanks everyone!

It's a nice little light isn't it. Get yourself some of the low self discharge NiMH batteries and you're all set. Enjoy you new light!

Thanks... now I just ordered one in olive :D

to you guys using the Q5 powerpack / combo:
does the Flashlight still have the preflash on low?
i know fenix repared that issue but i saw a P2D from a combo sold in december and it still had that flash.

Now DavidC if you get yourself a L2D body tube, you'll have 2 great lights!
Congrats.
