Hey guys!

I havent been around lately to read all the new developments in LED lights. So , needless to say, I have some questions...

Whats on top right now? I guess im speaking in lumens or ??
Cree or Rebel ? Others?
Any general info you have would be much appreciated!!

Do you mean which emitter gives the most lumens per watt? I guess at this point it would be the R bin Crees, but It's been at least a week since I read about those, and who knows what they've made since then?

Howdy, and welcome back,
Depending on how long you've been gone, a lot is happening, with new lights coming out virtually every week now.

My current favorite EDC is the NovaTac 120P, modeled after the HDS EDC series of lights (1xCR123):

You can find those at Lighthound.com or check the CPF MarketPlace. Versatile, rugged, with lots of options on how to set up the user interface. Very neat little light.

Probably the biggest current buzz is around this soon to be released 1xAA light:

A new company, with an interesting take on marketing their new light. It looks pretty rugged, with variable brightness, 2 stage memory, forward/tactical clicky, can use any AA size battery, and supposedly is capable of 180-190 lumens, even with a NiMh battery (we are assuming that is at the emitter).

You can now find 3 LED (350+ lumens) lights at Dealextreme.com for around $45:

So, lots to catch up on. Enjoy!

So basically, the "newer" LEDs(the Crees and Seoul came out late last year/early this year) have double or more the efficiency of the Luxeon I, III, V and K2 LEDs. So for the same power, the newer LEDs have double or more output. The Cree XR-E P4 has around the same output at 350 mA as the Luxeon III has at 1 amp.

The newer LEDs are(the three common ones, Bins are in order of output/efficiency from lowest to highest):

Cree XR-E P4, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5,
Seoul P4 U bin, V bin(engineering samples exist)
Rebel 80, 100

Look at the Welcome Mat, and this thread for more info.
