Ok guys... I've been trying to see what's the brightest that I can do with these 2 heads and the various LF and SF LA that's available, not to mention the myraid combination of bodies and stuff...

SO... what goes??

2 X 18650 with MN21?
2 X C Li-ion with MN21?

What other combo is there??? Please help by specifying the body that it goes in as well...

Run time is not important, just want a light that will knock the socks off everyone looking on when I light it up...

For safety sake, get some high current rated LiFeP04 cells or nano-phosphate cells from the new black and decker VXP system, (they are 18650 cells made by A123 as I understand), use them instead of regular cobalt oxide cells to drive loads like the MN21...

try to get a bi-pin MN tower module thing (can't remember what they are called but I think FM makes em) and you can run something like a Philips 5761 in there, which will probably run a hair brighter than the MN21, but the MN21 is pretty close to as bright as you can get on a 2x li-ion setup.

Hey mdocod, good of you to chime in... I printed out your guide almost 6 months back and its been my incan bible ever since..:)

So I'm assuming 2 X C Li-ion is not the way to go for the MN21 like you guide has mentioned? I was hoping that it would be more easily powered by something shorter than 2 X 18650.

Will search for the black and decker thingy that you mentioned. I assume that you can't charge those in the regular ultrafire WF-139 charger??

I think the 2x C li-ion should work fine on the MN21, on the 5761 it will usually trip the protection and almost requires a softstart and initial voltage suppression circuit to keep from popping the lamp.

as far as charging the LiFeP04 cells, Silverfox has been doing some abusing testing on them, they are amazingly resilient, bouncing right back to full performance after overcharging, over-discharging, running hard, etc etc. He is currently testing out the feasibility of just overcharging them routinely with a regular li-ion charger. Since the chemistry is inherently safe, you can "mess around" with them without much worry. I would say you could probably charge them fine on a WF-139, ideally speaking just put a volt meter on the charge terminals and pull them manually when the cells reach around 3.8V.
