After I received my cut down Mag 1C (Done by Will), I can't stop thinking
that it looked very familiar, yet I never had a cut done mag before.
The shortest mag 1C on the left is mine, made for use with 1x18650.
Here it is, this is why it look familiar, my multi-led old beater light (one the right) look like a shrunken mag 1C.
This is my fav. beater light, Just the right size & weight, I use it all the time, jut not very bright. It runs on 3xaaa.
So I thought, why not turn it into a 18650 host like the 1C?
First I had to file away some material from the tail cap, recess the spring to fit the 18650. About 0.5 hr work using a drill grinding attachment.
Then I got a MCE reflector/LED holder combo for 5 bucks from DX.
Mounted a Diamond Dragon to a star & stick it in the tube.
I have to file down about 1mm to get it fit inside the tube.
From the photo, you can see how similar the two lights in terms of structure.
Both have 3 sections: Bezel, Head/neck & the body with switch.
Put it all together, you can see the diamond dragon fit pretty well in the MCE reflector after trimming 4 corner of the led lens just a little bit. (The lens of the DD was square)
A click of the switch, Wow, The Beater Light came to life with it's new "Double D" implant
. It's direct drive, as the DD can take some serious beating. Someone estimated DD runs on DD gets about 2A & no issues reported.
