IMHO Arnette's "apology" was anything but an apology. It showed his arrogance and contempt for the U.S. He never apologized for what he did and said it was wrong. His comments WILL cost coalition lives, not maybe, not perhaps. His comments will rally some number of people that were on the bubble for giving up. His comments were absolute comfort to the enemy. An apology of, I apologize to the American people, I didn't know my comments would cause a firestorm, is NOT an apology for his actions. Not that it really matters, an apology never negates the damage and his words will get our forces killed apology or not. It's not about free speech or the first amendment it's about right and worng. History may remember Arnette as the Jane Fonda of 2003.
