To keep things simple:

you're not allowed to cosmetically alter any part of the light (ie. tailcaps, Ti accents, etc.),

but you are allowed to run any lamp/cell configuration you'd like that's still incandescent.

The Surefire M6 Will Always Have A Place In My Collection. There Are Soo Many Bulb And Battery Combinations That Are Possible.

If I Only Had One Light, The Surefire M6 Would Be It.

I like the M3 for it's lighter weight, good size and assortment of setups.
You are allowed to switch between the M3 head and M3T head, right?

M4 is still good, because I can use a 2x17670 setup.

M6 is just too FAT.

I was fortunate to experience all the M-series except the M4. Kept the M6 for its currently available option.

+1, I agree with you 100% Mark, in every word you said.:twothumbs
Looking very forward to your LiMn compatible lamps. An EEEEO-M3 (extreme extreme extreme extreme output) would be awesome.

:mecry: :mecry: :mecry: :mecry: ...IF I HAD TO choose...

After a little over-analyzing, here's what I think:

  1. M3
  2. M6
  3. M4
  4. M2
Start from the bottom - I do not have an M2. My brightest 2-cell bulb is an EO-9. I think the LED lamps are better options in the 2-cells arena, for my uses anyway.

Middle-guy M4. Not the brightest nor the smallest. Good compromise between size and power, but just not as versatile as the M3.

Power hitter M6. No comparison when it comes to power. Truly an engineering marvel. This is my hobby light. Its output simply amazes me.

Versatility winner M3. Not as powerful as the M6, but it probably delivers more light per mass. With a Lumens Factory HO-M3* or HO-M3T lamp, it can run either two lithium ion rechargeable or three primary cells. The M3 (non-turbo) version is definitely my favorite. It's handily-sized, lightweight, and nimble. Carrying six extra primary cells, I can probably work an M3 to last a few times longer than the M6.
*still no luck with the EO-M3 running two li-ion. :(

I'm surprised no one brought up "how can you make us choose among those?" The really sticking point is that they do not share the same power-house. In other words, how do we logically compare 2-, 3-, 4-, and 6-cells lights? Not exactly the most logical decision but it's good exercise for the brain.

My driving principle: Lighter, Smaller, and Brighter

M6. No question.

It's not too fat, you just need to develop certain muscles to wield it comfortably and easily. This takes a bit of time and useage. Still, it IS on the edge of being too large in diameter for a tail switch.

M6 defininitely! With a LF HO-M6R and 3x17670 setup. Not the brightest M6 setup, but darn impressive enough for 99% of what I use it for.

The M3 is still my favorite for size/output ratio, but the M6 is a close second. Only thing holding it back for me at least is the 3x17670 holder as my IBC only accomodates 2 cells at a time. I've owned mdocod's 2x18650 holder too which is nice, but that won't power the WA1185, which leaves me going back to the M3 w/EO-M3 and 2x17500's. That's plenty enough lumens for what I'd use a small incan for.

I've had them all, several times, and the only one remaining is the M3. It feels the best in my hand. It is a good balance between size, shape and output. The M4 might be second though just due to the output and club-ability. The M6 is nice but the tailcap switch is awkward for me and my ROP puts out more power at 1/3 the cost (but no anti-shock capability and short bulb life). The M2 is just not comfortable for me although I do use an M2 head on my C3 body. I guess thats an MC3?

I love my M6.

But if I could only keep one M-series light, it would be my Leef-bodied M4.

The body is 2x18650, C-M, in black HAIII.

Currently running an MN61 with 4xCR123 cells in it. I like knowing that I have the option of swapping out the 12v. SF lamp with a 9v. Lumens Factory lamp, and tossing in a couple of 18650 cells.

Besides being very versatile, I have a Maxpedition aftermarket holster that fits my Leef-bodied M4. But SF still refuses to make a holster for the M6, and while there are aftermarket holsters for it; getting one is a bit of a pain.

The M3 is the most "practical" with sufficient output for most applications. However, since use/practicality is not a criteria, my vote went to the M6. There is just "something" about the M6 that puts a grin on my face every time I fire it up...

I've owned the M2, M3, M3T, M4, and M6 (3 of them). I beleive I had all of them at the same time for awhile IIRC. I was basically using all of them to see which ones were keepers and which ones didn't get much use. The only one I still have is the M4. I may end up with another M6 eventually, but for now the M4 does what I need it to do.
