Good day all.

Let me introduce my self.
My name is Andre, i am 22 years old and im from South Africa.
I am a police officer and really love my job, all my passion goes into my work.

I need a really bright HID spotlight for my line of work.

Now my problem is the cheapest HID spotlights we get in our country is aproxximatly R3500 (south african Rand) That should realte to about $340.
That is a heck of a lot of money if u take into consideration i only earn +/-$450 a month.

So i decided that Building my own HID flashlight might be a better option.

Now my plee is to any one with some knowledge to assist me and tell me what to get how to do it eg.

I will greatly appreciate any advice hints/tips.

From sunny old SA

Looks like it would work OK, you may find similar kits cheaper on Ebay, I bought a kit with a slim ballasts so that everything fitted easily inside the case. The kit I purchased was about the same price except it included the slim ballasts. I'm sure you will find the slim ballast easier to work with, it seems to be more efficient, lower start-up and run current.

You need to choose a bulb the same style as the bulb already in the light, mine was a drop in fit and the focus was perfect in standard the position.

I suspect your light may have a 6 Volt battery? You will need something with a 12 Volt battery, the larger 10 Million candle power spotlights usually have a 12 Volt 7 Ah battery, ideal for this application and should run a 35 Watt set-up for at least an hour, biggest drawback is weight. If your battery is 12 Volt with a smaller Ah rating runtime will be shorter.

Look for a bulb with a temperature of about 4300K for a nice white beam 6000K will be fairly blue.

Ok Norm i followed ure advice and got a 7Ah 12V batterie and a 35w HID kit With slim ballast for use in motorbikes.

I will start the build this weekend and keep you posted.

Thanks for the help.

Good luck with the build Andre, any problems just ask, I'm sure that myself or other members will be able to help.

Thanks bud i will do that.

Quick question Will the 35HID be brighter then a lets say 15million candlepower halogen spotlight.

Is there a conversion table from lumens to candlepower?

Personally, I think you would be happiest if someone bought one of the Stanley HID's discussed in the other thread, and mailed it to you.
