:sigh: ... guess i gotta stick to AW 18650's
perhaps the flashing point of the FM1794's are 7.2V and above?

i already blew 2 bulbs in a row :sick2:

A couple months ago, I asked FM about running the 1794 on Emoli 18650's. The answer was that it would probably flash since the bulb is already working very hard under Li-Co's. The reason for asking was not a quest for overdrive, but to phase out my larger Li-Co's. I like the inherent safety factor of the Manganese chemistry. Oh well... not like I'm losing sleep, worrying about unprovoked, rapid disassembly of my lithiums.

Yet, I was still curious; Not enough to try it myself, mind you, but figured someone was bound to sooner or later.

Congrats, bx... you are that someone, and are hereby nominated for this months :poof: award!

J/K :naughty:

If there's an upside to taking one (or two in this case) for the team, it's that you've confirmed that FM was right, and have probably saved some of us a bit of money. I'm sure we're not the only ones to think about trying this.

What could be interesting, is AW is working on a soft-start, multi-level driver to fit inside C/P/Z tailcaps, which is just awesomely cool. Hmmmm... I wonder when someone will get the idea to try one with IMR's, and a FM1794. Wadda' ya' think, bx? Can't wait to hear the results.

BTW, you're not alone in discovering just how powerfully destructive these wonderful batteries are. Keep an eye out later tonight for a thread on how AW's IMR16340's burnt, and almost melted the tailcap spring in my C2 (pretty sure it was my fault it happened). I love IMR's!

Aaaaargghhh! I have some IMR16340s on the way and was hoping they would be good with the 1794.

i actually have the IMR-16340's and tried out the FM1794 in a C2....

it actually lights up.. but then again, i havent had it on for more than 5 seconds

i was just WOW'd by the light output in such a small package that i feared of instaflashing yet, another $10 bulb, LOL

I think you'll be fine on the 16340 size cells. Keep in mind that on the 16340s, It's like a 7C load. Whereas on 18650s, it's only like 2C. The 16340s are going to suffer some voltage sag and save your bulb.

Sorry to hear that Bimmerboy. Can't wait to hear more details. My 1794/IMR16340 combo are still working perfectly in a 6P w/stock tailcap. I only use it in bursts though.

I'll probably switch to the HO-9 for more reasonable runtime, not safety concerns. I love these cells!

Well now I'v run it thru 2 charges in the IMR 16340 Setups and its still working in the L2 and reversclicky so il report back when i have run thru some more charges that is l2 with an FM d26 unit and FM 1794 bulb

Slightly delayed, but just posted about the damage. We had a canine house guest stay overnight, so I was hangin' with the pooch, and testing my new LF2X every time we went out back. Here's the thread : Dingo ate my tailcap!

DM - Eric's correct... the IMR16340's will sag enough under that kind of load to run the bulb without poofage. When it gets dark tonight, I'm going to compare side by side, the 1794 w/IMR16340's, and on Li-Co 18650's. Will report back.

well I now got 4 charges thru the l2 with fm:s reflector and 1 charge with the 22 watt axial bulb I dont know the amp on that one but the reverse clicky still works
