what would a man need to do to make the thing stay as bright as it does at start up?? now thats some serious light.....its the 3000 btw....big yeller one..

HIDs are not as bright at start-up but get brighter as the bulb warms up. It usually take 30 seconds or so.

Most HID lights take some time to get warmed up, 30-60 seconds or so - the Stanley gets around this by overdriving the bulb very hard at startup, thus the ~7 second ramping up followed by the step down to regulation.

As cool as this looks when it's happening, it's essentially pushing every component of the light harder than it was designed to accept; not a big deal if done for a few seconds, but if you were to somehow trick the ballast into doing it all the time, you'd probably end up with melted wires, a damaged battery, if not an outright fire or failure of some sort..

To safely get that kind of output, you'd have to replace the ballast, battery, and all the wires (the bulb could technically take it but you'd be better off swapping that out too). In other words, you'd just need a different light, something 50 watts or above.

tx star....still happy with the output.....my first hid and thanks to all you nuts on here for getting me hooked on this junk !!:sick2: ha !! i would like to tone down the tint some as ive seen on the other thread....let me know when yall figure out the best bulb to put in this thing...

It's overdriven at startup to provide faster climb to full brightness in 10 seconds or so. I've heard other brands can take as long as 30 seconds.

I also like the quick brightness at initial startup but I noticed that after the unit ramps down in intensity after the first 7 seconds it appears to my eyes that the light is still actually increasing in brightness ever so slowly like a typical HID over the next 10 to 20 seconds or so. I don't have the equipment to measure this but that's what my eyes are telling me. Anyone else notice this?

It was verified in another thread that the light constantly ramps down and then jumps back up again throughout regulated runtime, a runtime graph would resemble sawteeth. Since the effect is almost imperceptible, it's a good deal as it helps prolong battery life.

I notice exactly the same thing.;)

Even though the bulb and ballast have just dropped from a much higher wattage than its normal regulated output, I can see it slowly increasing brightness for another 20 seconds after the drop until it stabilizes.

Thats also cristal clear.
When you reduce the power, the light runs for a few seconds on the better efficiency at higher temperatures, until the chemistry has cooled down. This cooling down is surely visible.
The other direction: The light gets instantly brighter, but for a few seconds the efficiency rises and the light becomes even more brighter.
