Sorry, the title is a bit confusing. I didnt know any other way to say it.

Okay, I have a TK10 kept in my glove box but it hardly gets used. Its only there for of course emergency's and also general flash light use if needed. My concern is that since the torch can go weeks without getting used. Can the batteries ever get damaged in anyway or lose charge just sitting there without getting used for some time?
Btw, they are AW's if that makes any difference

Thanks!

For long term storage, I think it makes better sense to use primaries. Not sure if there is any affect on AW's though.

As an emergency light, you may be better off keeping a pair of primary 123's in the light.

Li-ions lose 20% of their capacity per year when stored fully charged. Primaries make more sense to this application.

Yes, but AW has circuites and things that protect them. How much power do they use? But then again, you can do as i do, and every week or so, top up the batteries.

It has nothing to do with cell protection. It's part of the li-ion chemistry.

Li-ion batteries also hate high heat, which is another reason not to leave them in a car that'll potentially be left sitting in the sun regularly (also a reason not to leave cellphones, cameras etc. in hot cars)

Thanks for the replys!
I guess not much would happen to them just sitting there. I at least use the torch once a week (sometimes) when I need to go to the backyard and look for something. I grab the TK10 and brightens the place up like day.
At the moment, its winter here so batteries getting hot doesn't really matter and also I never park the car in a place where it will get extremely hot during summer.

lol man i wish i had a Tk10 just to leave in the car...i'll probably buy an E20 for the car with litiums...it'll be my back up back up, because i normally have two flashlights on me.....

I would suggest keeping the batteries and the flashlight separate, preferably with the battery(ies) in a sealed plastic bag, as airtight as possible.

haha, I don't make much money anyway. Though I'm a full time student so I get paid by the Government anyway and living at home with parents supporting. Its good to spend free money :sssh:

That must be an Australian thing :sigh:

What about leaving a light using RCR123s in a hot car for the day, just every now and then, and most of the time taking it out at night and using it? Will the heat actually damage the batteries, or simply cause them to lose juice, or not perform as well?

I do that once in awhile with my 6P w/M60 and I don't want to do anything that will ruin my AW batteries. Most of the time the light stays in the house during the day, except when I actually carry it in my pocket, but every now and then, it's necessary for it to sit in the truck all day so I don't have to pack it around until its needed that night.

Please note LiIon batteries will be damaged if the temperature reaches 60 degree C. Storage inside a glove compartment in some hot summer area may exceed this temperature and kill the battery.

That's all I needed to know...now I'll use primaries when I leave it in the truck when it's hot.

Thanks AW!

BTW...LOVE your batteries!!! :twothumbs
