I have been building a couple 2d rops lately with 6aa eneloops and I'm very happy with em. Just out of curiosity, tonite I dropped a reflector and rop low bulb into my 6d and voila! She's a fire breathing monster :) I have a couple 6d's and one 6c I'd like to Rop, but I don't want to buy 6 expensive batteries for each. It runs pretty well imo on just the alkaline energizers that are in there. What other reasonable options do I have? Can I just run it on alkalines? I know I could get aa-D adapters, or some AA packs and spacers, but what I like about this idea is that I could get a pretty bright Rop that has monster battery life, so I'd like to stick with D's or C's at least. And C's in the 6c of course. Throw out some ideas, I just don't want to spend 100+ bucks on batteries. Thanks

choose either the 6c OR the 6d and buy the rechargeable batteries for it.
tenergy 10000mah d's are $48 for 6 at $8 apiece i believe.
i think that is battery junction.
do not buy 2500 mah d or c cells from walmart.
they are nothing more than a rechargeable aa battery in a c or d skin.
NOT increased capacity over your current 2d/6aa setup.

rop is gonna eat up 6d alkalines, but you gotta figure for $80 in batteries and a charger, that is alot of alkalines. maybe if you had other toys with d or c batteries you can justify the batteries and charger more.
like a boom box or other flashlights?

another 6d option might be
carley 5 cell 1.7 amp bulb
rated at 180 lumens on five cells,
i don't know what that translates to on six cells.
pretty close to rop low but tamed down a little and alkalines will appreciate not having the extra watts to push.
i'm looking into how to buy them myself.

the current drain of an ROP (low or high) will destroy alkaline cells so fast it's really not going to be worth it. On D size alkaline I would expect the low bulb to be bright and useful for only about 15-30 minutes, if that, then you have to dump in another $6 worth of cells. Spend the extra bucks on some NIMH cells, even the el cheapo tenergy brand cells will be more than sufficient, and runtime will be like 5 hours on the ROP low.

Been searching for a few hours. How do those 4500 D's stack up? I'm diggin on those at $8 and most people seem to like em.

From what I can tell, the stock light ran on 9v's of alkaline d's, and most people are running them at much higher mah's at around 7v to get max bright and max bulb life. My 2d has 7.2v in aa eneloops and it's awesome. I guess if I went with the 6 4500 d's, they'd be just 1.2v each but much higher mah so they'd still be 7.2v, but would power the bulb in a much better way. Am I thinking correctly in this? I'd like to hear some opinions on the 4500's vs the 10000 tenergy's
thanks guys

What are nicer than the Tenergy Cells? I just picked up a 6D ROP and I need to pick up the cells for it.

Oooooh, I may have misread. Lots of good choices there, thanks a lot. I love my eneloops so I may spend the extra couple bucks and try the low discharge ones. :) Crap, now I gotta buy a new charger too. lol. Thanks guys

You don't need a new charger. It's just that the 2A setting on your charger will take longer than the 4A option they list at bottom of their webpage. Nothing wrong with using Eneloops...just a question of how long a run time you need between charges....and how long of a light you want to use. Personally, I do not want to lug around a 6D (HEAVY) walking stick, when a 2D will give the same light (albeit for shorter duration).

That's ok with me, I'm one of the weird ones that'd rather charge them slow and best rather than fast. I love this charger, works great so far for all my luxluthor packs :twothumbs

mdocod,

Thank you very much for the information! There was a set in there that claimed a very low discharge rate... looks like the ones for me.

Thanks again!
