Hi all,

Are there any recommendations for a good halogen spotlight that has a really good run time? I don't need millions of candlepower or anything obnoxious, just something that will light up trails nicely. By good run time, I'm thinking of something that can run for about two or three hours on a charge. My eyes can't stand HID (or even most LED) lights. I love the "warmth" of halogen though. The last time I checked, our eyes evolved around a yellow star, not a blue-white one.

Thanks!

I have a very large collection of halogen spotlights, and only know of 1 (which I own) that has a runtime of 4 hours. All other halogen spot/flashlights I own and know of will start dimming after 20 minutes of continuous use.

The light I am recommending is the "Dorcy Industrial Rechargeable Xenon Lantern". It has an extremly long range and can light up very distant objects with its narrow and super bright beam. It does not put out as much light as a standard spotlight which might be nice so it won't be so blinding. Here is my thread about the light, which has beamshots at the end and a lot of information on it.

When you say halogen, do you mean a halogen spotlight or simply an incandescent? Am I correct in assuming that you definitely want it to be rechargeable?

Any specific price range?

Off the top of my head, maybe a Streamlight Vulcan would fit your needs?

Hi,

Well, I was thinking halogen over standard incandescent. I don't know if I'm crazy or not, but I really like the "warmth" of halogen lights. Are they any other lights out there that come as close to natural sunlight?

Thanks Bluebeam! I'll definetly check that light out.

You're welcome. The Dorcy Industrial Rechargeable Xenon lantern has a similar warm beam color to my halogen spotlights, but is just a little bit whiter. IMHO there is no other rechargeable spotlight that could suit your needs better than the Dorcy (based on what you posted). :)

Would you like me to take some more beamshots of it?

Not quite true. The midday sun can be between 5000K and 10000K depending on weather conditions. Perception of whiteness is tied to intensity, so you would consider the sun quite blue if you had it at very low intensity.

Hi,

That Tec 40 looks exactly like something my eyes are wanting. Its only 20 bucks so I'll definetly give it a try.

PT does make some durable little lights but I just wanted to mention that it's not going to be very bright and will be pretty dim and turn a sick orange after 3 hours of run-time. The other problem is that it's going to have a lot of beam artifacts and become more pronounced as the light dims.

Some HID lights come in warm 4200K color temperature now. There are also some warm white LED's available. If you're just going to get a general purpose compact light the Tec 40 is way behind the technology curve. Even a mag light with some minor modifications would be a substantially better platform imo. Do a search on the "ROP" mag mod. Depending on the formula they have good run-time and will be about 800-1000% brighter while producing a nice smooth beam.
