What is the process for the Mag Charger Mod? I thought it would be a good idea to have everything for this Mod, soup to nuts in one thread.

  • One new or used Mag Charger.
  • One Welch Allyn 1160 Bulb. Is it a bi-pin bulb or a potted bulb?
  • Change the bulb with the Welch Allyn bulb. Is there anything you need to do? Or is it just drop it in?
  • Where can you purchase the Welch Allyn bulb? Light-Edge is not going to be around much longer.
  • I think that's it you're done 500 lumens that can be focused.
  • Is there anyone that can post some before and after photos?

Bi-Pin

Drop In but a mica heat shield is suggested to avoid damage to the reflector.

Litho123 had bulbs and the mica heat shield available in the past. Check the group buy forums.

What's the "Mica heat shield" look like? Anyone have pics. The group buy is closed. I guess an easy mod if you can get the stuff.

I these specs but I keep reading 500 lumens this says 327 bulb lumens?

Specifications: Welch Allyn 1160 Bi-pin Bulb.

5.0 Volt BI-PIN Miniature Halogen Bulb
3.45 Amps
17.25 Watts
550 hour lamp life
327 bulb lumen output

bulb lumens overdriven @ 6V

[(6/5)^3,3)*327]=596,82B-L----> 387,94T-L

you can PM fivemega for some WA1160 bulbs

:wave:good luck with your mod!

I haven't done it so I can't tell you what the heat shield looks like. I would imagine that the reflector would be okay for short bursts but probably would suffer from a long burn.

I have some...

It's a clearish thin sheet of mica with two holes in it for the bulb pins. You need to trim it to size and a round shape with a pair of sharp scissors. Originally used for tubes in good old fashioned circuits ;). If you order the bulbs from litho123, he includes a couple with your order. His thread is closed until the end of this week.

Ok, we're getting there. Anyone have photos of the Mod or before and after beam shots.

I figured it was something like that. My dad has had a Magcharger since 1993. I recently sent it in for warranty work on the switch. Ever since I got it back I've been thinking of doing this mod for him.
