I'm sick of the self discharge on my Nimh batteries in my Mag85, looking at getting the Fivemegga 9x14500 holder instead.

Does anyone use this and what kind of runtimes do you get?

Cheers

The 14500 cells I got from AW are rated at 750 mAh. The holder probably has 3s3p, so 750 times three is 2250mAh. The Mag85 will run over 3 amps. I haven't tried this configuration, but my guess, until you get a more informed opinion, is 30 to 35 minutes, with the light getting dimmer all the time.

wait till AW comes out with the C size li-ions.. then you can run a 1185 for around an hour and only have to deal with 3 cells. Can even step down to a C size body or just stick a tube in your D body.

I have that setup and it is brighter than using the nickel metal way. And you can let the light sit for 2 or 3 or more weeks and she is ready to go when you are. 35 min is about right for the runtime but mine does not start dimmin until 25-28 min. into the run. It is a beautiful thing. I actually have 2, PM me if you are interested in one of them, I might let go of a whole unit, hb/

Hi HB,

I've got a Mag85 made by Mad Maxabeam, (really nicely made light too by the way) he's sending me a new pack with CBP1650s to replace the Sanyo 2700 pack that isn't really up to the job. I'll see how that goes, unfortunately I can't really justify a whole new light, or even the $$$ for the 14500s and FM holder at the moment.

Thanks for the offer though, if I didn't already have my own Mag85 I'd be really keen on one of yours, a Li-ion powered one sounds like a really good set up.

I may be a newbie but would'nt three of AW new protected 18650 (will single click Mag85 to light) do the same job as the fivemega holder and a lot cheaper. Just need some pvc to make work. I'm running this setup and it works great.

Protected 14500's might be the way to go with a MAg85 seeing as how AW has some nice higher current rated cells available now with protection. And i know for fact that FM's holders are top knotch. I just got the standard 9aa-3d holder in the mail yesterday and I love it. It would be an expensive little proposition do get not only another holder but the cells to put in it. Nearing the $100 mark by the time shipping is all said and done.

How well does this fit in a 3D host? What kind of run time do you get?

I use 3/4 inch pvc with connectors on the end,the connector are a little bigger on one end so a little dremel work needed, after that perfect fit, no slack,I get about 35 minutes runtime.
