Maha releases long term NiMH Batts

Well Sanyo started off this trend/invention and called theirs "Eneloop", than Duracell, Varta and now looks like the makers of the famous Maha C9000 charger has bought out the Maha Powerex Imedion.

Yup. We can look for this trend to not only continue, but I'm betting that Low-Discharge batteries will soon be the new "standard" of NimH batteries, and the old (original) technology batteries won't even be available in the near future.

They seem a little pricey, $13.95 for four. I bought 8 Eneloops in one pack for $14.96 today at a B&M store.

I'm betting that it will certainly become the "standard," but the original technology still has its place. If you need maximum capacity there is still no replacing a Sanyo 2700, for instance. Still, I imagine that in a few years your prediction will largely come true. Hopefully the next-gen LSD cells will maintain the high-current tolerance of Eneloops.

I bought 8 for about $16 in a package deal from Thomas Distributing (with a holiday special charger deal. They arrived today, but I haven't had time to fire them up as of yet!
