I put Cree reflect 27 mm kit from DealEX and drive each with 800 mA step down circuit.

Sawadee Krup Khun Krit,

Nice mod, those beamshots are an excellent bargain for your Baht!

I like the throw made possible by the oversized head and how neatly everything fits inside your light.

Does it get very hot with each XR-E running at 800mA?

Keep up the good work!

Sawadee Krup Khun Mosport (Khun Derek).

After I turn on for 3 minutes is getting warm. The head is quite good for heat transfer. At first, I try to put tiny fan from computer VGA card under heat plate, there is enough room for it. But I think that I will use it for intermittant use only.

Did You make something to ease placing of reflectors?

The one time I used the 27, it was very hard for me, as they have to be placed both in center and in height.

This body is perfect fit with 3 x 27mm reflector. I just make new heat plate for horizontal adjustment only.

I'm really tempted to do this mod myself, I love the way multi cree lights look! Is this the host you used for this mod? I'm checking because it's a 68 led light, not over a 100 leds like your startpost said, but it sure looks alot like it.

Another question, you mentioned getting 2x123 batteries in there... could you check if 1 18650 wil also fit and power up the 3 leds with the used circuits? That would be great. Also, is that huge heatsink you posted above custom made? Or is it a part that's found inside the flashlight?

Thanx! :candle:

The circuits are buck, or voltage step-down. So the 18650 will probably work initially, but fall out of regulation and end up with gradual dimming throughout the runtime. IMHO if a "C" battery fits, then another option may be to use a LiIon "C" battery. That has even greater capacity than a 18650, and would probalby perform better (not as much sag from the load of the three LEDs). The C would have more than double the capacity of 2 RCR123s.

I understand a c size li-ion will fit but I have about 14 18650's around, so If I'm gonna buy a mod host it should be able to fit 18650's.

Sorry for miss some data, it is 68 led light that you mention. It's fit with li ion C size but I not sure when circuit work in bug mode. This circuit work 3.6-9.0 volt and go to DD when Vin below Vf. I use 2xr123a because I use for short time only and easy to reachrge inside body.

KnOeFz, I cut aluminium plate to a circle heat sink. Thinkness is around 2 mm. It can act very good for heat transfer.

The stock front lens is plastic poor for transparent. I have more custom 2 mm thick glass lens to fit this body. Please tell me if someone want it for mod. Budget include post cost is about 5$.

Are you really able to cut custom size glass lenses ?

Are you able to do 21.50mm diameter ? I'm interested in 2 pieces...

BTW, great project !!
