We went from about 30F at 7:30 AM to almost 10F at 9AM. Roads are ICEY from rain last night. BE CAREFULL!

...BITTER ARCTIC AIR IS OVERSPREADING THE NORTHLAND TODAY...

.AS TEMPERATURES FALL...WINDS WILL GUST TO 30 MPH AND OCCASIONALLY
40 MPH TODAY. SNOW SHOWERS AND BLOWING SNOW WILL REDUCE VISIBILITY
ACROSS THE AREA TODAY. WIND CHILLS WILL FALL TO 40 TO 50 BELOW
TONIGHT AND EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

IF YOU MUST TRAVEL ACROSS THE NORTHLAND TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY...
BE READY FOR ABRUPT CHANGES IN THE WEATHER. LET OTHERS KNOW OF
YOUR TRAVEL PLANS...TAKE A CELL PHONE...AND CARRY A WINTER
SURVIVAL KIT. REMEMBER THAT PETS ARE ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO WIND
CHILL.

From same source yesterday from an email sent by a friend
This reads like some catostrophic movie script. The last line is great.

A POWERFUL ARCTIC FRONT WILL CROSS THE NORTHLAND TUES MORNING.

WARM PACIFIC AIR.DRIED OUT BY THE ROCKIES.WILL ALLOW
TEMPS TO RISE INTO THE 40S TODAY & REMAIN NEAR THE
MELTING POINT TONIGHT. AN ARCTIC FRONT WILL REACH INTERNATL
FALLS & BRAINERD JUST BEFORE DAWN.THE IRON RANGE & THE
DULUTH & SUPERIOR AREA EARLY IN THE RUSH HOUR & NORTHWEST
WI LATER IN THE RUSH HOUR TUES MORNING.

MAJOR CHANGES WILL OCCUR THE MOMENT THIS ARCTIC FRONT ARRIVES.
SKIES WILL SUDDENLY DARKEN & A VERY BRIEF PERIOD WITH A WINTRY
MIX OF SLEET.FREEZING RAIN & SNOW WILL OCCUR. WHEN THE ARCTIC
FRONT PASSES.WINDS WILL ABRUPTLY INCREASE TO 40 MPH & A THICK
SNOW WILL SUDDENLY REDUCE VISIBILITIES. THE COMBINATION OF FALLING
AND BLOWING SNOW & WIND MAY CREATE BRIEF PERIODS OF NEAR
BLIZZARD CONDITIONS DURING TUESDAY. TEMPS NEAR OR EVEN
ABOVE THE MELTING POINT WILL BEGIN TO FALL VERY RAPIDLY. SNOW
SHOULD LET UP & BECOME SHOWERY AFTER A COUPLE OF HRS.ABOUT
TWO INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED ACROSS MANY AREAS ON TUESDAY.

AS TIME GOES ON.TEMPS WILL CONTINUE TO FALL TUES AND
GET AS LOW AS 30 BELOW ACROSS THE RAINY RIVER VALLEY.THE IRON
RANGE & THE ARROWHEAD.WITH BETWEEN 20 & 30 BELOW FROM THE
LARGE INLAND LAKES AREA THROUGH THE TWIN PORTS & UPPER SAINT
CROIX VALLEY EASTWARD THROUGH NW WI TUES NIGHT.

IT IS VERY RARE FOR A POWERFUL ARCTIC FRONT TO ABRUPTLY BITE ITS
WAY DIRECTLY INTO A WARM PACIFIC AIR MASS.

Suppose to get wind gusts of up to 60 mph here in Ohio tonight. I heard on the radio that the Electric company says there could be power outages.

I'm ready with alternative heat and a plethora of batteries for the lights!

Its 41F (5C) this afternoon and it's suppose to drop to -10F tonight, that's quite a swing, with 3-6 inches of snow and 40+ mph winds! It should be fun. I will idle the genset and make sure everything is in working order when I get home tonight.

Wit's End it looks like it already passed you since it's 3F up there.

We here in SW Ohio are going to be right on the line which means we might get to see the rare thunder snow storm. In any case looks liek the high winds are predicted here too.

Ya, its looking like its going to be interesting getting to and from work tonight.
On the plus side none of the forecasts say anything about a lake effect snow band or such for my area so hopefully it wont be too bad, hopefully...

Here in milwaukee temps here so far today= high: 43F low: -2F currently: -25F windchill Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Chicago got up to 49F, and is now -2F.

Don't ya just love the midwest?

60-80 MPH winds ripped the county courthouse roof off and tossed it in the parking lot. My house, six blocks away was unhurt. I did get to play spot the roof between the rain/wind and snow/wind/cold with my Pelikan 7060 and found it was still where it was when I bought the house. Some people were not as lucky. There was debris all over the streets. Someone's pinwheel spinner yard flower was in my yard when I left for work.

It was -11F with a 32 mph wind putting the wind chill below -35F when I left for work and drove through 6 foot + drifts. I just followed the tracks from a nice 4WD and hoped I was in the center; the plow hadn't gone though yet. Honestly the snow was higher then either side of my car. It was scary fun...

Ended up with about 3 to 4 inches here from reports. But due to the wind it looked like it was all in the air at the same time. The trip home from work last night had a top speed of around 15mph, well when you could see the road anyway.

Of course I just noticed this in the forecast for my area and just had to laugh. :)

... Significant winter storm possible Thursday night into
Friday...

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Thursday evening through Friday evening.

Another winter storm will affect the area Thursday night and
Friday with significant snow accumulations possible. There will be
the potential for heavy snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches... as
well as strong gusty winds creating blowing and drifting snow.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
