This is a life saving tool and want to keep the surefire reliability in several G2's and the 6P I have.

+1 for Malkoff

M60*L for the G2. I have an M60 in my 6P and one in my C2. I'm very happy with both. The one in my C2 came through a nasty spill that cracked the lens of the C2.

Malkoff!!!!!!

Tried the surefire, perfectly reliable but not as bright as the malkoff. I dont know that I have read a single post on someones malkoff taking a crap! So the reliability is there for sure.

I was going to brag about my Green KL3 Surefire LED on my G2, yet what has been said here makes more sense. :)

I think I now need a Malkoff drop in!
but which one for my C3 or G2???

From what I hear, the Malkoff devices M60 series is great for both of your light. For the G2 though make sure to get the ones with an L in hte name, like the M60L, M60LL, M60WL(ask him), so they don't overheat with extended use.

ditto the others... and keep the nitrolon bezel. You won't need an aluminum bezel with the lower current draw modules and it dents far easier than the nitrolon one.

The Malkoffs seem to be plenty durable. Made of solid brass with all of the electronics fully embedded in some kind of black thermal epoxy. It also uses a TIR instead of reflector, so even the front end is solid. One thing though, I kept the P60L in my G2 LED because the Malkoff was so heavy it made the light feel unbalanced and front heavy. So for me, the Malkoffs feel better in the metal lights.

I got a Malkoff M60, and it's great in one of my custom P60 style lights, but has too much output for my indoor "bump in the night" light. I then played with a bunch of different inexpensive drop-ins, all of which were also too bright, and reliability was mediocre in my G2 bodies. I like the G2 over the P6 for a bedstand light because it's more comfortable on cold nights, and doesn't make as big a dent in the wood floors if I drop it...

Rather than spend another $60 on a Malkoff M60L or LL (I had to draw the line somewhere!), I picked up a used Surefire LED drop-in from the marketplace, and it's been very good. The color's not as good as the Malkoff, and it doesn't have the smooth spill that I like in the M60, but it's got the combo of mid-range lumens, lower price, longer runtime, and quality build that I want in my bedside light.

If you don't mind the cost and heaviness, the Malkoff is hard to beat. If you want to save a few bucks and still get good quality, the Surefire's the way to go.

I think someone should make a sticky about the G2L with the 80 lumens vs the M60LL 80 lumens. There are differences in runtime and output, but I can't remember.

I have used the LED from Surefire in a 6P and the LED from Malkoff M60LLF, but due to the Malkoff having flood it wasn't a fair comparison for the Surefire. Needless to say I kept the M60LLF.

For a G2 LIFE SAVING Tool?

M60WL or M60WLL.

In some situations I can certainly see the warmer tint as being a life saver.

L or LL just comes down to how long you need the runtime to be and how much light you will need on scene. I'd pack spares and go with a L.

Why not just get a P60L and have the same confidence that you have in the Surefire bodies you have?

I can understand this sentiment, as I always have a die hard 'OEM-or-nothing' attitude when it comes to serious tools. HOWEVER, I disagree in this instance.

FWIW, I have Surefire Kool-Aid administered intravenously, but I much prefer Gene Malkoff's drop-ins when it comes to LEDs.

Having EDC'd all of them at one time or another, in both a 6P and a G2Z, I've experienced no reliability issues with the P60L, M60 or M60L. The only difference I can discern is the better output, runtime, tint, and heat sinking of the Malkoff drop-ins.

The heat sinking issue is important if you run a light continuously like it do - up to 1 hour at a time. The Malkoff runs full power with no throttle down but the P60L I had would dim noticably after 15-25 minutes.

I EDC my 6P's. I choose which 6P I will use that day depending on my expected needs - I will say that the M60WLF gets the most use.

The Malkoff does add to the weight of the 6P and results in quite a heavy light considering its' size but IMHO, the sheer quality of the 6P and Malkoff combo makes it unbeatable - I have sold all my other lights except for my 6P with M60 & 6P with M60WLF. I also have another 6P with M60L on its way!

James...

P.S. I did keep my Nitecore D10 as well as its a little ripper!

As everyone else stated, Malkoff drop-in is the way to go. Which model you choose depends on the application, either max lumens or longer runtime

I carry a G2 with Malkoff M60 drop-in on my duty belt and I trust the light to work every I go to it. Reliability was a HUGE factor for me. That's why I didn't opt for a cheap eBay LED drop-in held together by hot glue.

The Malkoff drop-in is pricey, but it's worth it. Like they always say, you get what you pay for.
