Over the last month I have researched the following lights:
surefire M6 is it worth the money without being rechargeable
aelight xenide 25W do not like hid as much
olight sr90 is it reliable?
fenixTK40

My main use will be for a home protection/general use type light.
Can someone help me make a decision?
Thanks

The SureFire M6 is an extremely expensive light, and powering it will also get rather expensive as well.

If you don't need to get the most lumens out of it and just want a dependable light, I would go with 2D or 3D Maglite LED with the Luxeon Rebel. A little more low-end, but it's a much more affordable light that is Made in USA. You can use common batteries such as D's or AA's (you'll need to get an adapter, I have one that puts 2AA's in parallel). The 2D and 3D are pretty much the same in brightness.

Hi GViper... :welcome:

It'll help us help you if you give us some idea of your expected budget. You've quoted two vastly differing pricing parameters here:
The SureFire M6 at $740
The Fenix TK40 at $190

EDIT: Prices in Aussie dollars!

IMHO, more than 700 bucks is one hell of a lot to pay for 20 minutes worth of 500 lumens!!!

The TK40 will give you this same output for 2 hours for ¼ of the cost of the M6. And uses common rechargable AAs like Eneloops.

Thanks for the responses.
Jack, the M6 is $425.00 right? I guess my ultimate light is something that will work if I do not use for a week or so, so I am leaning towards a rechargeable. I want something really bright for the house as well as looking over my property, which has alot of ground.
