As an inexperienced modder, my first P7 M*g mod left the entire tabs on the P7. This made it necessary to bore out the M*g reflector hole to accommodate the LED + tabs.

I see pictures of work done by expert modders where you don't even see the P7 tabs - they are either cut nearly off or bent downward (with connections underneath?). I have never come across a clear picture showing exactly how this is done.

Can anyone give me a hint as to how to get this type of install?

I see that when done correctly, it isn't even necessary to bore out the M*g reflector to fit the P7.

Many thanks!

Use a pair of pliers to flatten the tabs first then bend the tabs down. Cut to length.

I personally don't bend the tabs down at all. I just cut them short.

I do mine like this, cutting the tabs and soldering on the inside:

From my mod thread on Mag SSC P7. It's not hard, just use flux and a fine tipped iron and be quick about it.

Thanks so much everyone. That was exactly the information I needed!

I am constantly amazed at the experience and quality of work that is here on CPF.

Stefan, is that a small piece of tape insulating the emitter lead from the heatsink post?

And finally, is it only necessary to connect to *one* of the LED leads on either side? Then the other one (the second one on each side) could be cut off completely?

Sincere thanks,
Bill

No tape. Just thermal epoxy between the emitter and the heatsink. One leg is enough to attach the leads.

Good luck with your modding,

Stefan
