Hi everyone,

I just visited peak beam´s site and found, besides a new site, that they are offering an enhanced version of their light and "spyder" lenses.

Is this something new? Does anybody have information about it?

If that is true it would be a dramatic increase of power, with more throw than the standard version, though it is specified, as the same. ( they did n´t supply too much info)

Thank you

Karlthev was telling me about this version about a month or so ago. I hadn't see it on their website until now though. The light alone, no accessories is $2300. :mecry:

hmmm is anyone going to question this CP rating? What wattage would it be running at??

On a similar subject back in Jan, I was going to buy a brand new 15 Million CP version for a huge chunk of dollars more then the standard MB. (Peak beam told me 15MCP is tops). I held out as their Li-Ion batts were not available at the time. :(

Im no expert, but I doubt 12MCP, it would have to run at much higher wattage, then there would be less life hrs, & Effective Visible Range would be more. Which isn't listed on their site. And Im shore they were using the term Peak Candela rather then CandlePower??? Maybe Im wrong??

Would like to see some CPF expert opinions.

Yes, the 12 million cp has been an option for around $450 as I remember though don't quote me on the price...the "spyder" lens was an option but is now to be included as part of the standard package--it adds additional strength to the lens assembly. I didn't go much further with the options packages in my conversations with Peak Beam representatives but I will when I meet with them in about two weeks. If you have questions and/or would like to be part of a "group buy" , please post here or e-mail me.

Cant see how you can get that much more CP without running at Higher wattage?? Which would be good as more lumens? Unless its on a short burst high mode??

I also asked the guys at Peak Beam if they could extend the runtime on the high spot function which is 16secs I believe? They said they could & I asked for 1-2mins LOL.

Maybe you could ask them about that when you meet them???

Thanks.

I will ask, not to worry.

Edit: I had to refer to some notes I had (juggling too many things ansd on the road to often it seems!) and now I remember my conversation. The "enhanced output" was due to a different reflector being utilized however one which does not have the same level of durability as the "standard".:ohgeez: I am sorry if I lead you all to some level confusion on this one.:(

I think the name of the game is claiming as big as you can and still be "believable" right?......... LOL!...

Well mine has a kabillionzillionquintillion CP! sorry.. I guess thats not believable :(

Thats a crazy expensive light for what you get, but if you really need the "remote" features, I guess you have to pay it or make your own or do without.

The 75W HID is not so rare anymore that it should demand that kind of price.
But if people will pay it.. so be it. :caution:

I asked Bob about this also, and he said this enhanced model is "mostly" from an improved reflector. It uses the same bulb, battery, voltage, and ballast wattage as my Gen-III, but they somehow manually select the brightest bulbs. It does sound like this is one of those "self-inflated CP" claims which I hate to see happening...expecially with such a huge jump up to 12 mcp.

Karlthev, I snagged those A123 cells from BVH, so will have extra to make a pack.

$400-$500 bucks extra seems like a lot of money for a hand picked bulb and updated reflector. I suppose it falls in line with their other pricing though.

Im much more interested in the option for longer runtime then 16secs on high spot. At least a few mins. Which Peak Beam said was np, & if i recall the short 16secs on high was a military requirment.

I understand this, and wish they gave you more options with the toggle programming to hold high for longer...but on the other hand, it is not a real big deal to do a quick right toggle to restart 16 sec cycle.

I agree with you, the only way using the same bulb, would be overdriving it by changing the ballast, which would be maybe dangerous, though maybe am wrong .

I still can ´t figure out how can you increase that much candlepower by just "changing the reflector". The beam should be half the size from the standard version, maybe like a pencil, don`t know. ( Did someone here say lower quality reflector? )

Certainly would be a megaray killer.

My understanding is:

Candlepower = measurement of amount/intensity of light at a point in space (or at the meter's sensor in this case)

All other variables of your flashlight being unchanged, if you can better/tighter focus the output of your bulb with a better reflector, then candlepower is going to go up.

My $0.02 worth.

You would need telescopic vision to see the throw if it was 12MCP with that tight, TIGHT beam.

Id just prefer it standard. Wish Peak Beams would have some beamshots on their site comparing the standard 7.2MCP vs. 12MCP.:ohgeez:

Heres a Beamshot I somehow found...

LOL

CONCLUSION:

I DEFINETELY PLAN TO BUY A MAXABEAM AT THE END OF THIS YEAR , AND I AM GOING TO GO FOR THE EXTREMELY FIELD TESTED AND PROVEN 7.5 MILLION STANDARD VERSION.

THANK YOU FRIENDS
