New Led Lenser / Coast M7 first impressions

Great review and a very interesting flashlight it seems!

I can't believe that Coast (aka Zweibrueder) finally uses a regulated circuit. And as it seems a rather innovative one! :)

Ya, but four AAA? Why not 2 X CR123a?

Ya, but four AAA? Why not 2 X CR123a?

Because there's a lot of other manufacturers who make 2xCR123A lights.

Well you could argue they should make both to please everybody. But I believe LL wants to be a bit like Mag. A flashlight of the better but for non flashaholic people. And as such 4xAAA makes quite sense.
In fact I believe here's others than me who also likes lights which takes commonly available cells. And love NiMH for it's safety and robustness (although not as robust as the old NiCd). And with LSD NiMH we're almost in heaven ;)

Whether you like 4xAAA, 2xAA, 8xAA or whatever you might as well get used to they're here. They do in fact sell quite well :poke:

Even they offer a regulation for this new light they still left out on mainstream lights that others offered. Were talking about xpg, mce, sst 50/90 now. That light is basically the same like T7 & P7. It only has a regulation and 20 lumens brighter from his brothers.

As far as I know the new Led Lenser P5R will have a 18650 as Power Source.
I think the new Led tecnics will take a longer time, it's not as easy as using a reflector if you have to calculate a new lens design due the LED characteristics are completely different in newer LEDs.

Joerg

Good point! :)

It seems that LedLenser is not able to go with the time. :D

Many people here argue that the reason is, that this light is made
for normal people and not flashaholics like us. You can get AAA-batteries
in every store on every corner.
But i do not care about that. This is no argument IMO. Thats a no-go for me...:shakehead

But still an excellent review Joerg!

Very good review :twothumbs

beim Test kamen ebenfalls LSD-Akkus mit einer Kapazität von 2100 mAh zum Einsatz (translated from Google:the test also came LSD batteries with a capacity of 2100 mAh for use)

Did you not confused with the AA to AAA?

Concerning the debate of AAA vs CR123 batteries:

Since there are lithium AAA batteries available from Energizer (with all advantages of CR123 lithium batteries like high energy density or low self discharge) I can see not one single argument speaking against the AAA form factor.

Well, at least if you do not own only CR123 flashlights and have a life time supply of such batteries... :D

I'd like to add another argument in favour of AAA batteries:
Many people use two sizes of flashlights: Small EDC ones like the Fenix LD01 or LiteFlux LF2 (using AAAs) and bigger ones like the Fenix PD30.
Having just one battery size for all my lights would be a big advantage.

Only to correct this - the review is from walter (lichtinsdunkel) not from me. But it's still a excellent review ;)

I did not like the AAA too, but as worte above I really waiting for the P5R and I am sure this light will get a lot of attention.

Joerg

Do there exist also lithium AAA reachargeables?

Actually yes, they do, but none that you can use here due to their higher voltage :grin2: , so with that you are right!

On the other hand: You can use a common NiMH rechargeable AAA battery (if it has to be rechargeables), with the only disadvantage being a little lower weight to energy ratio and some advantages like easy and safer handling and common chargers.
(I would choose a LowSelfDischarge version however.)

So I still see no real argument in favour of the CR123 battery form factor...

Hello every1. I am buying the M7 today. Was about to pull the trigger on the P7 but found out the former's available here in the Philippines and quite cheap too for only P3,4oo w/ free shipping. The P7 is P2,900. The seller has an MT7 sample too but not yet for sale..Maybe he is hiding a P5R I wonder:duh2:.
