Hi all,
When I mention Lumens = As measured by MrGman w/the same battery configuration and I will use his 30 sec readings to be fair and more accurate.

I used Google earth for distance and got 100 yards, but I didn't do the math for the height of the Palm tree. It is at least 100 yards not counting the height which would make it further.

I used my Digital Olympus on night setting for all pix, not the best for true depiction, but at least it gives a good idea on how to compare one light to the next using the same tripod, stand, and same camera w/same settings.

The lights

1. IST by Packhorse Aspheric Dive light = lumens not measured yet!!
2. Nailbender 1D Mag w/ stock reflector = 180.6 Lumens
3. Nailbender 1D Mag w/ Aspheric from KD = 126 Lumens
4. Nailbender P60 P7 drop-in in Surefire 6P w/AR coated lens = 357 Lumens "warm"
5. KD Aspheric Q5 Mag kit = No lumens readings.
6. Tiablo A10 = 229.5 Lumens
7. Surefire M6 w/WA1185 and 3 AW 17670 = 973.8 Lumens
8. Fenix TA30 = 191.4 Lumens
9. Deal Extreme #11836 P60 drop-in w/ 3 18650's = about 150 lumens (MrGman didn't record these, but off memory I know it was around there)
10. Surefire M6 LED Zeppelin 5 R2 w/ reflector = 854.2 Lumens
11. Surefire M6 LED Zeppelin 5 R2 w/ aspherics = 474.8 Lumens
12. DX Sacredfire Q5 stock w/reflector = Lumens not recorded, but around 150 or less.
13. DX Sacredfire Q5 stock w/Aspheric = Lumens not recorded in this format.
14. Nailbender 2D P7 Mag build w/3NiMH "C" cells = 742.1 Lumens

Control Shot

Left - Nailbender1D Mag R2 w/KD Aspheric= 126 Lumens vs. Right Naibender 1D Mag R2 w/ Stock reflector= 180.6 Lumens

"Same Light in both pix" You can see how much brighter the Palm tree looks with the aspheric lens, but you loose a lot of lumens and spill.

Left- Tiablo A10= 229.5 Lumens vs. Right-Nailbender 1D Mag R2 KD Aspheric= 126 Lumens

The Tiablo clearly is the winner here, but I have another trick up my sleeve. More to come.

Left- Surefire M6 LeD Zepplin 5 R2's stock reflectors= 854.2 Lumens vs. Right- Aspheric kit Surefire M6 LeD Zepplin 5 R2's= 474.8 Lumens

"Same Light in both pix"Yes You will loose a ton of Lumens, but look how much brighter the Palm tree looks with aspherics. Is it worth the huge amount of lumens lost?? I will re-take these pictures of the M6 w/ 5 R2's due to my brother sitting below the camera enjoying the fireworks, but it created a shadow on the fence.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures. I first want to thank MrGman for the Lumens sphere test. I know the coutless hours it took him and can't thank him enough. Also, Dennis and David for your creations:twothumbs

Thanks,

Very nice review...many thx! :twothumbs

Thanks,
In all the pictures I was aiming at the palm tree. If you notice in some pictures the palm tree is noticeable with plenty of spill and flood, but the aspheric lens type usually just light up the palm tree.

I took pictures of several lights with aspheric vs. reflector and put them side by side for a direct comparrison.

The King of throw is clearly the Tiablo A10, but I will try some AR coated lens and re-take the pictures.

I noticed you use the palm tree to gauge your lights. I do the same. The funny part is that we may use the same plam tree!! :D Are you near downtown SJ?

I just want to say Thanks You for all the time and effort you put into this.

It is not easy to create such an organized post with good beamshots like this.

I do live in San Jose, but my Palm Tree is off Capitol expressway/Yerba Buena.

Thanks,

I hope it helps. I tried the video, but MrGmans Camera is way better at capturing the actual light as we see it. Needless to say that even then we can never capture 100% of the light we see in person.
