I just received two old M3 lamps that are colored (one is pink and one is orange). Are these any better or worse than the new style MN10 and MN11 that are now black?

It appears to me that the new ones have a plastic base and the old ones were aluminum. The question is; was the change made for performance reasons or for cost reasons? I would think that aluminum would be better for heat dissipation than plastic.

Well, mine are now black, but they're still aluminum. Are yours really plastic?

Yes, I was wrong, the black ones are metal also. Took a closer look.
Thanks for taking a close look and updating us!

Note that I'm sure that SureFire have made improvements to the lamp assemblies - elements of them are refined etc - whether this results in observably different results rather than production or engineering type gains - I'm not sure it is possible for us to determine because we don't use enough lamps, often enough under sufficiently control conditions.
