Can't decide. I've heard the Rebel has a warmer tint (which I'd like) but the Q5 is supposed to be brighter. Anyone have experience with both lights? Is the Q5 noticeably brighter? What to do, what to do?

Scott

I have experience with both and the Cree and for me the Q5 rocks, very, very bright and bright white beam nice hot spot great spill. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with it. The Rebel had a slight incan look to my eye:candle:. Hope this helps, good luck. Let us know when you pick one and what you think.

I like the color of the Q5 better. I first I thought that I liked the warm tint of the Rebel, but for some reason I gravitate to the Q5 more now.

+1 with the Q5. some say here that thermal management is better with the Q5

Thanks for the info. I didn't expect that one could tell much of a difference between the Rebel and the Q5. Sounds like it's actually noticeable. Any visible difference in throw?

Thanks,
Scott

It's a tough call between these two.

The R100 is rated at 200 lumens, and the Q5 is rated at 210 or 215 lumens. The difference is about 5% (or 7.5%), which should be pretty much not noticeable.

So you're left with tint or form factor or something else as the deciding factor since efficiency and run time are about equal also.

Tint is still somewhat subject to a lottery, though differences aren't anywhere near what they were with Luxeons. You could get a "warmer" Rebel with a "cooler" Q5 and they would appear to be quite different. BUT, you could get a "warmer" Q5 and a "cooler" Rebel, and they might look about the same.

I really like my Rebel because it seems to have a wider spectrum and give better color rendering than any Crees I've played with. I've seen lots of beamshots that seem to confirm this. BUT... I've never owned a Q5.

ive never owned a rebel 100, but i can vouch for the Q5. but i have seen one side by side before buying

oh well, "buy both":broke:

Ok, I have had all three. I sold the rebel on the BST when I saw the Q5 was coming out. To MY eye I liked my Cree model better than the rebel (which I also sold on the BST) When the Q5 arrived I dropped in the batteries and WOW to MY eye it walked all over both the Cree and rebel. And every other led I have owned. (Again to MY eye, don't want to start a war)

I guess I'm the first to say the Rebel might be the better one.

I have both right now. I like both lights alot. I've only had them a very short time (about a week). When inside I can say to my eye the Q5 looks brighter but it is probably more the tint, than the lumens. When outside though at a distance of maybe 60-70ft, I would not say one was brighter, but I could make out the details alot better with the Rebel. I'm thinking the Rebel may have wider coverage of the visible spectrum.

Now to be totally scientific I would have to use the same batteries and everything, and find a real good target. So far I think the Q5 is nice indoors and the Rebel outdoors.

This is all very early, I need to spend more time using the lights, but I'm really liking the Rebel lights I have (L2T and P3D). I picked up a L2DCE as a gift for someone, but I have not got it yet although I'll certainly play with it for a week or so. I have to do the QA as it will be going around the globe once it passes a little stress test.

I would say if you get good samples you'll be very happy with either one.

I have both and like the rebel but I love the Q5 ooohhhhh baby I bought the P2D and P3D WOW way better than the P2D with the "premium"100
I love the Q5 shweet!

i hope to get a Q5 OP P3D later today, and i love to read how great my next purchases are, and it seems the Q5 is highly rated, yea the rebel may have a yellow tint which is better for certain things, but for my needs, i want as much light as i can in a good package, so i can see at distance to know whats ahead. I also today purchased a red filter for it i will get in a couple of days.

go outdoor with both a q5 and a Rebel, you will choose the rebel.

Also, the rebel led is more durable than the Q5 led. Thats from the specification sheets of both.

Durable in what sense.. bash proof?

You may choose the rebel over Q5 for tint, but that is not to nullify the effectiveness of the Q5 and send it to "non useful" status.. my P3D CE looks the same as my P3D Q5 OP for tint, and im quite used to the tint as being very useful

What exactly does "warmer" mean, more yellow?

My RB100 is greenish, very greenish, that is probably not what you guys mean right? Does being greenish make it any less bright than one with a better tint?

Cree leds are rated 50k hours at 80 celcius if I remember well (350 ma). Higher than that, the life shortens quickly.

Rebel leds are rated 50k hours at 135 celcius if I remember well (350 ma).

With all the heat our flashlights produces, your cree whatever P,Q Z bin you can have, will begin to fade way before a rebel. And, again, compare the tint.

I think i have seen people posting their temperatures as being in the 30 - 50 degre range, so thats no where close to 80, so the theory would be its fine. 80 degrees would almost boil water, no lights going to be that hot from a cree or luxeon im sure, your talking serious wound if you touch it.

I own both. As far as brightness, they are about the same. The difference that I notice in mine is that the Rebel as stated has a warmer look which is closer to an incan look than the Q5. The Q5 is very white. If you are new to LED's and they appear a little to bluish for you because you are used to the look of incan, the Rebel would be a perfect crossover light. An example would be that a good friend of mine works for a local Sheriff's dept. and uses a Streamlight SL-20 light for work. He does not like the look of LED lights because the all look a little blue, no matter how white they look to me, because he has been using the Streamlight for 16 years now. My Rebel, he likes. He may be in the market to get one himself to use as a backup that would stay on his duty belt.

Not much throw to either one but will light up the average sized track home, backyard great.

not much throw? i think my Q5 OP P3D has as much throw as my P3D CE Smooth. Perhaps over larger distances it may make a difference, but it hits my sweet spot of 45M distance better than my P3D CE version.. even though the CE is a smooth and the Q5 is a OP, the Q5 wins hands down.

This is my doubt too Scot!

I wanna order one single CR123 Fenix Flashlight with the tail button, but I just don´t know which one to order! My main doubts are:

1 - Q5 LED or RB100 Premium LED ?
2 - Smooth or texturized ?

Sorry dudes, but I am a little "youngster" in this light addiction... What is "tint" ? There is some terms that I don´t understand here, like "tint" ou "warmth of the color" (is it correct?)

Greetings
