P3D Rebel 100 vs. P3D Q5 mod. Which would be the brightest or have the most output? I have a P3D REbel 100 which was shipped out today but I also have a regular smooth reflector P3D that I have been considering upgrading to a Q5. I really love my old P3D and hate to mess with it as it would be expensive to have it modded for a modest gain. I wish I had a Q5 P3D on hand to do a three way comparison. I guess for now it will have to be two way shootout.

Mikes250R,
Though the Q5 is brighter by the numbers, the Q5 and rebel versions are very close visually with regard to output. No WOW factor here.
My rebel has a slightly tighter spot and slightly smoother beam. When I add an op reflector the Q5 has a great beam and slightly larger spot than the rebel.

Use and enjoy your rebel. Order an op reflector from David for your old P3D. And when the R bin cree's come out, do the mod yourself. It's really not all that difficult.

Take a look at Chevrofreak's runtime/output graph.

His Q5 sample seems to output ~180 lumens while his Rebel 100 does ~150 and the normal P4 does ~130.

They keep saying these things are just different in efficiency but looking at the run times, you wonder if they aren't just juiced more. For the slight difference in output I think I'd rather have the longer runtime. You'll notice those last minutes more than the minor brightness differences.

Thanks Shakey,

I really have enjoyed my old regular Cree P3D. I hardly use my L2DCE anymore. The P3D fits so nicely in my pocket that I hardly know it's there until I reach for it. LED technology is improving so fast it won't be long before it passes HID.

I sent my P3D P4 back to Fenix-store to have Q5 bin put in. When I get it back I'll post some comparisons betwee it and the Rebel. :)
