So, to get about the right voltage to drive a P7 or MC-E, you need a li-ion... or a low Vf emitter and three big, beefy NiMH/NiCd in series. Anyone know how to gut my bum lamp assembly and beef up the heat sinking while I'm at it? I think the head and module lie close enough that I could fill the intervening space with Arctic Silver and call it a day - but I've got nothing but a Dremel for machine work.
Is this possible?
Is it possible with my equipment?
Anyone have schematics for the head or lamp assembly?
There any third party X800 modules for LED use?
It this works, it'll open up the ability to use P7 at around eight watts (conservatively, based on lumens from the X80) to a lot of people for the price of a diode, a burned-out lamp, and very little machining. For those who don't have buy-in with 18650 or li-ion chargers yet, this could be very cost-effective.
