post stories of the durability fo your McG lights here!

I'll ask my son to post something about durability when he gets old or maybe pass it on to his children ... :naughty:

I was foolish enough to buy 3 of the of the Gismos. They were at best underwhelming. For the money, durability and customer service I would recomend the new Huntlight FT-01 CREE X-Lamp. In my opinion these Huntlights are brighter than any of the Gizmo lights, more durable and easire to use. Moreover they are one third the cost, brand new. I was so displeased with the Gizmo lights that I sold them recently at a garage sale. The three Gizmo lights sold for a grand total of $24.38 cents, without batteries. Not a vey good return for the $900 I paid for these three lights. But you live and learn.

I'm sure, however, that there are Gizmo groupies who will disagree with me. These groupies will say Gizmo equates to quality. In my opinion and in my experience this is simply not the case. I hope this helps.

Just curious, was it in a garage sale or perhaps another place.....

From another of your posts.

LED - McGizmo you will be happy to know that the three LT-27's of yours I own will go on sale this weekend at my boys' school to raise money for a worthy cause. I let my two sons price them. They didn't think much of them as in their words "their not very bright." So they priced two of them at $5.00 ea. One of my boys said that the one I just bought from russtang should go fo a little more because it has that "shiny thing" (Ti-bezel) at the end. $7.50 for that one or $15.00 for the bunch. I hope these prices will stop any accusations of scalping your products.

I wish you all good luck and hope you find the light that makes you happy.

FTR I am not a Gizmo Groupie as you would put it, but I have met the man in person, dealt with him on occasion and for his character I will stand up, but as for his lights I will follow his lead and let them speak for them selves.

:wtf:... Someone drank a big cup of hate-o-rade this morning. 02scuba, after reading through some of your posts, you seem to have some major issues with Don's lights and the shoppe. Maybe you have some valid complaints(I don't know for sure), but I think you need to step back and look at the big picture. If these lights are as bad as you seem to think they are, why is it that lights that cost close to $500 sell out in mere minutes??? Why is that there is such a huge demand for these lights??? Why is it that people are willing to pay a premium on the secondary market for these lights(and smile while doing it)??? Plain and simple, these are high quality tools that are purpose built to be just that. I'll admit, I was skeptical in the beginning, I just couldn't understand what all of the hype was about. So I picked up a PD, and now several McGizmo lights later, I'm hooked. I can't speak for anyone else here, but I work too damn hard for my money to spend hundreds of dollars on sub-standard lights, and that is certainly not the case with anything in the McGizmo line-up. Just my $0.02...

FTR I have one of dons lights left the Ti s27-c.I edc this light it has never let me down,as to durability, well its titanium ,few months old now but it is still new,not a scratch oh and i have droped it a few times and not a ding insight.

So for durability ten out of ten,oh and no you cant have it for $25cents.sorry.

yeah 02Scuba thanks for crapping on the thread that was very nice of you.

Honestly i think your a moron (or lying) when you say that you sold them for such a low price when you could have gotten pretty much all your cash back through McG or the B/S/T forum on here.

anyways the only thing that i have done to my PD is look like a dumba$$ and trip running backwards and scratched up the clip.

Just to stay on mossyoak's thread topic :) :

Have only EDC'd my new Ti PD-S for a week and a half but my old PD I carried for a year. Dropped a few times. Taken into the great outdoors. Never failed me. I expect the same from my new ones.

Well I am not a gizmo Groupie either or a proponent for McGizmo, the person. I know him too well to even think about trying to find anything to praise him about. The lights themselves are what they are and in the case of the Ti will continue to be what they are for quite some time in all likelihood. As to durability, That's a good question and one I personally am interested in as well. To the best of my knowledge, all of the McGizmo lights fall well short of any measure of perfection but are these shortcomings such that durability will be compromised?

02scuba hopes to help. What does he hope to help or is it who does he hope to help? They say not to feed a troll but I would be willing to bet the only meal that would really help here would be that of swallowing some pride or perhaps a dish of crow. If a measure of one's success is the amount of time one has to spend on counter productive activities then pehaps 02scuba is quite the successful person he claims to be.

Regardless, what does this have to do with the durability of a flashlight?

Unfortunately, I have no story to add here as I feel it would be inappropriate for me to do so and I am only too aware of the fact that YMMV.

I don't think it is possible to break the 27LT. It will scratch, scuff and chip, but I haven't broken it yet.

Hi guys,

My bad. I leave my post above as it was posted but I realize it was inappropriate and not only off topic but likely in conflict with the rules on CPF. I leave it to Bernie or any moderator if he(they) want to delete or remove what I posted. If I need to take a time out as well, so be it.

Getting things back on track here :nana:, I use an A19 light with a CR2 tube and a custom Piglet from Goldserve with a faster strobe, for biking here in Chicago, all year round, every day. While that might not sound like a light could get beat up, believe me - it can.

Getting dropped due to cold or wet hands, getting kicked around in my bike bag with my wrenches, pump, and other tools, and getting exposed to the Chicago winter... SALT DIRT GRIME, isn't something I think a lot of lights could handle. It's never once failed me, it still works great, is dry as a whistle on the inside, and it still looks good, except for a few nicks and scratches (personality traits).

It's even survived (as have both I & my bike) a couple run-ins with cars in the city... mostly cabs, as I have the yellow paint on my bike to prove it... although that's a whole different story! ;)

Anyways - Don - you got nothin' to worry about. There's a reason why 90% of my lights are lights made by you. It's because I wouldn't trust my life - and that's what I'm doing - with most of the lights out there.

I dropped one down an outhouse hole last fall near my hunting camp.:ohgeez:

Its all good though, since its a mizer version, I was there last week and it still provides enough light to read play.... errr, the sports page at night! :D

Ran a PD through the wash and dry cycle in my coat last fall.
not a problem, no dings, dents, scratches, and turned right on.
Good as new, just cleaner!

Yeah, but the batteries cost a fortune!

Sounds like a great yard sale, but not unexpected in Marin. Just the other day I picked up a used Rolex and a blender for a buck $2.98. And the guy next door was throwing away a Volvo. Too bad, too, 'cause I was looking for an Audi.
