I originally built this light for GhostReaction with a D2flex board.

I rebuilt it with dual Shark Buck 3A boards, both controlled by one dimming pot. Each Shark Buck drives a pair of P7s for fully regulated output of 2.94A measured. Actual could be around 3A given the voltage drop across the meter. At 11.1V input, the light draws 4.9A. At 12.6V in, the draw is 4.23A.

Given the ~25V input limit of the Sharks, this light can also be run using the 8 X 18650 holder and 2 dummy cells.

The momentary switch for the D2flex was replaced by a stock action. Here's a pic of the guts with a temporary pot wired for bench testing.

Here's all that mounted in the tube.

I had to rewire the string and didn't account for anything other than serial connection when I designed the wireway, so some wires had to jump across the face of the sink.

This is the first Ellie II I've installed a pot knob on, and due to the shape there is less clearance for the knob. I machined a step in the bottom of the knob to clear the lip of the head.

Here's the finished light next to another pot mod.

Thanks friends!

One of the most beautiful flashlight I have ever seen! What is it made of? Polished aluminium? Is it anodized?

Packesel, credit for the chromed aluminum host goes to Fivemega (FM3V-2 head and Ellie II tube). The heatsink is my design and is anodized black, and the pot knob is bare alum.

:goodjob: Dennis! and very nice pictures as well! :twothumbs

Oh no, there is a beamshot with the headline: Lambda P7 2D Mag mod, 3 X NiMH cells
I think it runs with one P7. Compared to your quad P7 it looks as if it was switched off. Awesome... the quad P7 of course... :)

LedZep,
Very very nice indeed. Are you not worried about pulling more than 4Amps from a 4S1P stack of 18650? Also is the Mag switch not problematic with that kind of current?

tino_ale,

The Mag switch so far is fine, but of course with limited runtime.

Also, the current is a concern, but the AW cells I have handled it without shutting down. I made 2 dummy cells for GhostReaction to use with the 8 X 18650 holder and reduce the current. I also recommend using IMR18650 if the cells shut down. The demand is above the 2C limit of protected AW cells when using 4 X 18650.

this ellie have been working flawlessly and its my other brighter light that I carry when I couldnt pack my PH50. Seriously its freaking bright and the max is not recommended for indoor use!

Very nice. How did you make those little crescent moon spacer/heat pipes for the two Shark Bucks?

Never mind. I see that you have the Sharksinks available at The Sandwich Shoppe.

wow... thats slick.... i've always been resistant to do a pot mod because i haven't known a way to make it water resistant... but with that knob you put on there... could you put an o-ring or something inbetween the pot and the knob?

Thanks for sharing!

PS...

whats the specs on that other mod? looks awesome...
