I am kind of interested in getting a new rechargeable incandescent with a li-ion battery. I specifically want one that either charges with the battery inside the light by attaching a charging cord or in a cradle. I already have a Streamlight Stinger so something similar to that, but with:

-lithium ion battery

-that charges in the light

I can think of a Digilight NT9, G&P Scorpion R500, and Streamlight Strion. What are some other lithium-ion incandescents that charge without removing the battery?

Fivemega creations! They will blow the socks of every light you mentioned, and some have charging cords

I think you'll need to narrow it down to the G&P or the Streamlight Strion. I think Digilight is out of business.

Not sure why you want an incandescent with a LIon battery, but if it is for compactness and weight, you'll probably be better off with the Strion. The G&P is longer than a Stinger. Additionally, since you already have a Stinger, you're already familiar with the use of the charger and the Strion will be easy to familiarize yourself with.

If your usage is for some sort of industrial or public safety environment, I'd suspect that the coaxial charging plug that is used by the G&P is not going to be terribly durable. And lastly, you'll most likely always be able to get parts for the Strion (I can still get them for 20+ year old SL-20's from Streamlight.) That's seldom the case with Chinese companies where production is often limited to parts on hand for a single run or limited number of runs.

If you'd be willing to charge the battery out of the light, the whole world of Wolf-Eyes, Pila, and li-ion conversions of Surefire/Ultrafire/G&P opens up. The convenience of a light that just "plugs in" is nice, but lights that have removable individual cells that can be charged on independent circuits will outlast pack-charging solutions. The cells in a "pack" will eventually become unbalanced and the whole pack will have to be replaced. You can get more cycles out of a light that uses "loose" cells. It's all tradeoffs.

Okay, now that I have a Pelican 7060 I am good for a little while in the LED department. Now I am back to thinking about this again. At the risk of being redundant, I am again looking for a flashlight with a:

-lithium ion battery

-that charges in the light

Now that this much time has passed, what are some good viable options today? I had been thinking about the G &N P Scorpion R500, but now it sounds like it isn't really all that impressive.

I think both the Wolf-Eyes M90 13V setups and new M300 have "plug-in" style charging.. but I still recommend removing the cells every few cycles and charging them on individually monitored channels to keep things balanced. The Wolf-Eyes stuff is pretty nice.

JAS,
Get a SL Strion, nice and bright and is small. Also is a single batt not multiples. charges easy and quickly and gives nice runtimes. Hard to beat for easy charge convenience.:twothumbs
